If you bring this back to Rockville let me know and I'll provide some free labor!

There is a very strong possibility of that. My new wife doesn't want me to leave her alone for weeks at a time anymore for some reason ;)

I have to finish up a couple of loose ends in WV before I'm back in Rockville full time. I'm hoping to get the motor mounts finalized and any other significant fabrication finished before I relocate the project back to MD.

Be happy to donate a few weekends/weeknights if needed to get some hands on 80 swap exp. Still torn between a diesel and LS or LQ. Just saw a post on CL for a Detroit Diesel 4-53 mated to a 700r4 for $1500, would be nice to take all the computers out of the equation!

As my LC9 5.3 and 6L80 edges closer to my 80 I'm wondering how this project looks. I sure could use someone else in the game, misery loves company!

@Lionsgarage What vehicle did that combo come out of ?
Or did you put it together.. I did not know 5.3 came with 6L80?
Any info much appreciated...

It was all out of a 2013 Silverado crew cab k1500, I bought the engine (LC9, 6L80, transfer case, harness and bcm from the same crashed truck.
I will be using the instrument cluster as well but that came out of a different truck.
I have the Mark's adaptor, Fbody oil pan, improved racing trap door set, and Holley exhaust manifolds all bolted up.
I plan to use F body engine mounts.
I should have the engine mounted early Oct....but the harness and cluster sway will be this winter.
(After hunting season).

I've got a 5.3+6L80+ECU &harness out of a 2010 Silverado. Out hunting the next few weeks, then I've got suspension and sawzal work to do before the engine swap. I'll drop you a PM, when I get back in the garage, maybe you can confirm some P/N's before I order adapter, exhaust, & mounts ?

Why change the instrument cluster? Just curious on the thought process

Rock, the late GM rigs all run the entire cluster off the PCM and BCM, plus with the 6L80 the cluster is the easiest way to tell what gear the transmission is in.
Oh, and it looks like a straight forward swap with the normal amount of fab work....with a bit of fiberglass work to trim it out.

Spear tech sells the tap shift box. I'm going to use a simple 3 position rocker switch. Tach is easy too.. Change the tach count to 6. Cruise control is off the PCM and needs a few inputs from the Toyota cc switch. Once I get there I'll post it up. But doesn't seem too difficult. I like your idea on the dash cluster it's thinking out of the box. Look forward to seeing it.

I sent you a pm not knowing how to use this app, sorry... So here is some pics.

As it goes with a lot of engine swaps it seems, this project is currently stalled. I have been talking to Vince and Nathan @ Forge Specialties about helping me so that this doesn't remain stagnant forever. One of the things in my way was I found some free rope in the form of 3 partially dismantled 80s at an estate auction about a year and a half ago. I bought them which ate up my project fund as well as what little free time I've had lately to try and get them back on the road. I have recently moved that task over to someone else's plate, so hopefully they will progress more quickly and I can recoup some funds to put towards the V8 project. Meanwhile I have not stopped thinking about this project, and have come up with some ideas that I hope to implement to overcome some of the hurdles I encountered when I last worked on it.
