No pressure.. Your public patiently stalks..i mean waits..

I had high hopes when I started reading this two hours ago, that he would be done before I was. Now I'm just really curious.

ICON / TLC does this swap ($$$); some of the pre-delivery videos on YouTube show the engine bay and the underside of the truck. Might help to see how they do it?

are you sure they do 6 speeds?

TLC isn't the only one who does 6spd LC conversions

Of course; just thought those images might resolve some issues I saw mentioned in the thread--pan clearance, exhaust routing, etc.

They're wild about LS swaps; not sure on the tranny but I'm sure it's mentioned in the videos. The engine package comes out of the crate CA CARB-certified. I didn't ask the price...

I'm pretty sure I've seen it mentioned in their videos that they use 5 speed AX-15 transmissions. I swapped an AX-15 into my YJ years ago (it was a factory trans in most manual transmission jeeps in the 90's). Seems a little on the small side for a heavy cruiser, especially one with a V8.

i've never even seen them use manuals.... i just figured it was just a 4LXX in every single one of them... probably just something out of a connect 'n cruise package

@RockJock82 Have you finished a 6 speed swap? Is there a thread or photos? I have seen several threads like this one where people talk about it or start, but have not seen any finished swaps with a 6 speed.

Take a look at the Connect & Cruise packages, most if not all that are automatics use the 4L65E and 4L85E. I am guessing that there is a reason for this, guessing being the key word. My thought would be something to do with the electronics.

I am pretty sure that @RockJock82 had done a swap with a 6 speed.

Kits: This is my OPINION

There are already kits available for Vortec swaps. Things like motor mounts and cross members are pretty straight forward. A straight plug in harness is another story. Just the amount of little changes made by Toyota along the way, even mid year at times, are enough to make any one size fits all plug and play set up near impossible. Also, keep in mind that any "hacks" required to make things work are potential issues down the road. It is also dependent on the motor/trans combo you are using and what year that is as well.

I set a swap up as a complete stand alone system with interaction with the host vehicle at a minimum, ignition triggers a relay that converts BAT+ to Ign+ for the motor's requirements and the brake circuit to disconnect the torque converter lock up. I understand that some want to use the stock gauges. They were vague when they were new, I recommend quality aftermarket gauges. They are more accurate and require no hacks to make them work.

The best thing you can do to make your swap go smooth is lots of research. Don't limit yourself to research here or LC specific only. There are lots of folks out there putting these motors in everything with tires.

I'll add that ls1tech.com is a great resource. It has as much as you want to know about any LS and vortech engine and there is a "conversions and hybrids" section that is all about swaps.

@NCFJ do you have a LS or vortec conversion thread on here I like the idea of the relay bat+ to ign+ idea!
When your saying the tcc lock up are you talking of using the brake light circuit and a relay wired "backward" to produce a grounding circuit?

I have a few build threads out there.

The trans requires a signal that allows the TC to lock up. This is done via a 5 pin relay wired with ign+ in the normally closed position. A signal from the brake light circuit opens the relay when you hit the brakes, allowing the TC to unlock.

The 4l60e lockup needs 12v and a relay to interrupt the circuit when pressing the brake pedal. 6L80e is a different story, just connect the GM lockup wire straight to the Toyota lockup/brake switch wire.

That's what I was talking about...
