Does anyone know what happens if you are missing the snap ring on the end of the axle (on one side)(front axle) 86 FJ60? Does...or can this casue the front hubs not to engage or the front tires not to pull when 4 wheel drive is engaged and the hubs are set to locked?
Went on a trail run near HiTop / Skyline, AL this date...Got off in the mud and then learned that the front tires were not under power. Front drive shaft is turning, hubs locked. Background.. .we installed new Auburn LSD in the front, new axles, new bearins everywhere, repacked the birfields, new brakes..etc.. RH front axle was missing the snap ring on outside when we took it apart, was not able to get a snap ring in time to replace by Sat an so we just went on without the snap ring on the passenger side axle.
I don't think the absensec of this snap ring would cause the front axle not to be powered, I"m leaning towards the (1) issue with the hubs, or (2) issue with the auburn LSD. By the way we intalled an auburn LSD in the rear and it seemed to work ok (same part number).
Symptoms are....front tires not under power when 4 wheel drive engaged, front drive shaft turns, 4 wheel drive light is on, hubs engaged.
If its the auburn LSD then I think the no-slip locker I took out of the rear may find a new home in the front.
I guess we'll take the hubs off to see what if anything...and jack it up on stands to see if 4wheel drive will engage on level ground. Anything ideas or stuff to look for?
Also question for anyone with a 60 +V-8 with marks adapter and yota 5 speed. Are you having issues with the slave cylinder "rod" over-extending and coming out of the slave cylinder housing at times (when this happens you are either locked gear or locked out of gear) depending on the timing of the event. Possible solutions? Thinking about trying to see if one of the adjustable slave cylinder rods from a 40 would solve this. There is no adustment on the OEM yota slave cylinder. Anyone seen this, and if so, do you know a solution?
Thanks, Elbert
