I have a verg mind boggling misery for the great knowledgeable people of Mud to solve.

Backstory-
I drive a 96' Fzj80 Unlocked. Being the aspiring 80 series owner I am, I decided I would embark on a quest for a factory E locker.( I'm In school and don't have 5k+ to casually spend on a locker)

Anyways, I found one on craigslist...

Anyways after a quick chat with the owner who pulled it from his Lx450, and is insistent it will work just fine in my 80, I bought it.

I Know nothing about diffs so I just assumed that the 4:30 gear ratio was standard and wouldn't be a problem. Obviously it is.

I asked him about it and he is very very confident it was never regeared and is from factory at 4:30.
I called Slee ( sorry Christo I can't read so I needed to hear it from you guys) and they are baffled that this possibly could have come out of an 80.

Yes, I counted 43 teeth- pinion has 10

Here's where you could be of great assistance-

Is this dude crazy and this is from a 470/100?

Is the 96 Fzj80( mine) somehow 4:30??

Is it even possible for a 450 to have a factory 4:30??

Anyways, I'll put a bunch of pictures down below.

They do have the same gear ratio. But I was under the impression that the spline count was different and they couldn’t be swapped between 98-99 100 series and 80 series. So it’s definitely a mystery if he indeed had it in an 80 series unless he had an entire 100 series rear swapped into his 80, which while possible would need work as the 100 rear is wider.

Yeah I'm guessing maybe an owner before him had done some kind of conversion and he didn't know.

Also the e-locker diffs are not a drop in replacement. There are some differences on the axle housing and the axles are different. It is best to find a complete axle to do the swap.

Correct. Even if the third member were right, OP would need to 'notch' the housing on his non-locker axle. Not a big deal, but not 'drop in'.

that's a 100 rear third. Resell that and buy a ARB for you existing third member and be done. Better locker and you will spend less then regearing that third to 4.10 and buying 105 shafts to make it work in your 80.

I mean. You could regear it and run it🤷🏻‍♀️. They’re a 32 spline though.

Im selling drop in 3rd's with 5.29's and lockers in you're interested. I just posted them in the axle classifieds.

32 spline side gears (axle splines?) - If so I'd be interested.

It's totally possible it was in an 80/450 that had been modified. It was never offered from the factory as such.

Interested in trading that diff towards a Eaton E-Locker or ARB Air-Locker or complete built 4.10 diff with an Eaton or ARB?
I'm always on the hunt for factory locked 6x/7x/8x/10x 3rds for cores.

I'd be interested in that for sure. I'll send a direct message over to you.

Just checked it is 32 spline side gears.

Given that and the overall look of it (that clutch gear looks like it’s been out for quite some time)… I suspect that did not come out of the LX450 as purported. My 2 cents. I’m still interested. I’ll reply to your PM

Anybody know how much work a Eaton e locker if geared properly Is to drop in as a third member?

Any problems with the axle shafts, axle housing?
Wiring complications?

Super straightforward. Driveline will bolt right on, axle shafts will slide right in. Run wires. Same with an ARB though you need to mount a compressor (not hard).

Any advice for testing the actuator? I've seen a few posts that are a great walk through for the 80 e locker. Can i test the actuator using the same methods with the 100 rear? As in with a battery and just testing the pins by adding pos and neg wires to them to lock/unlock the locker.

Talking about this forum.

Yes
