Is it worth the money, time, and energy to install 4.88 gears on a 1991 with a 3FE sitting on 33's? Or is it a none factor?
I personally would not bother regearing for 33's. That's just me, if you were running 35's or larger I'd regear. I've got 5.29 on 37's and I like em, but mostly for rock crawling and using my gears going downhill instead of braking. The better time/money would be spent regearing your transfer case, it's much easier with less skill/specialty tools needed.

What would your recommendation be for regearing the transfer case? Thanks

As far as I know there is only one gearset for transfer cases, oem low range is 2.49:1 and the reduction gearset takes it to 3.11:1 which is a 25% reduction. I've read on the forums that this is about the same a 4.56 gears in the diffs. The hf2a is a simple thing, gear driven and relatively easy to work on. I didn't do the high range gear, but I should have.

I did the Sumo low range and part time at the same time on top of the 4.88 gearing in my 3rd. This combo is perhaps the best upgrade for regearing close to 5.29 with the strength of the 4.88 gear.

Hello! A bit of a diagnosing inquiry. I have a 92 3FE cruiser and lately the coolant temp sensor has been acting funky. Gone on two 6+ hour trips in the past week and the temp sensor will usually sit all the way at the bottom as if the car was still off, occasionally though it will jump to a random spot, sometimes at the correct temp, sometimes higher, and usually lower, it’ll jump around and after a couple of minutes it drops back to off. Things I have considered are… 1. Bad temperature sender 2. Bad wiring somewhere, possibly from the sender 3. Thermostat stuck open or 4. Something else lol. Recommendations?
