Real new guy post incoming. Trying to track down a misfire, at the point of looking for air leaks. I bought the two plastic intake tubes to replace.

What’s the procedure to get these off? Do you start from the air cleaner and work back to the throttle body? I know there’s danger around the plug, how do you safely remove the plug on the afm? Or do you just leave it and take off the 4 bolts?

detach vac tubes from air ducts, loosen air duct clamps, loosen/unclip air filter top. Replace air tubes, reconnect all fittings. Keep it simple. Take pictures during disassembly if you think you may need help on reassembly...
Cheers!

And your throttle cable is run over the air intake .. fits into clip on top

Thank you! I would have never known that. They rearranged the clip so it was facing backwards.

Thanks! Got it sorted today. I appreciate everyone’s help!

Nice!
The thing that has been a huge help (in addition to the good folks on this forum) is a copy of the Factory Service Manual. If you really want to do your own work, and have the best guidance, the FSM will be your best friend. I will never own another rig without the matching FSM. Troubleshooting guides and step-by-step repair and diagnosing of components (electrical and mechanical), disassembly/reassembly instructions... Everything you (or your mechanic) need. I always leave my FSM on my driver's seat with a mechanic if I'm having work done that I can't do or don't have time to do. Makes mechanic excuses for shoddy work hard to argue if they did not follow the factory processes given to them for their reference.

Cheers!

I’ll try to find a print copy, that’s a good idea. I have the downloads, but a PDF that large is clunky to try and get through.

If you remember, where (and what version) did you get? I got the Haynes book in print and that has been helpful, but not as detailed as the FSM.

Take Haynes or Chilton & best use for them is starting a fire in your fireplace.
I got mine off e-bay…. There are other sites out there if you search.
Having a paper-copy book is my preference, too. Remember, FACTORY (Toyota is the author) SERVICE MANUAL- who better to tell you how to fix your LC than the company that engineered & built it?!? 😉

One of the nicest 3FE 92 LC's I have seen in a while. Last one really sold well. This one looks to be 100% original.

First post. I'm the proud new caretaker of this 1992 3FE. The BaT sale didn't go through (missed it by $750 there) but I saw it again on eBay couple months ago and jumped on it. I think it was meant to be and very pleased overall. Not my first Land Cruiser (94 FZJ) but probably the last. Always regretted selling the 94, so excited to add this one to my small vintage car collection. Tires were sixteen years old--I drove it less than two miles after picking it up and put new 31X10.50 15 BFG A/Ts on. Already done a few small things like greasing windows for quicker movement (great YouTube videos for that), and installed new WeatherTech mats. Basically going to enjoy as is and preserve the wonderful patina on this very original, rust free, California FJ80.

Wow fantastic rig. Thank you for sharing. I followed this truck on BAT. I guess that some sales just do not come together for some reason. These basic 3FE's will have their day. This looks to be one of the best in the country. Great choice on the new tires. The BFG in this size is perfect for the 3FE. Glad to see it will be kept totally stock and enjoyed as intended.

The Land Cruiser has become kind of like a stock 50 mercury as most have been customized and abused in the name of overlanding. The stock trucks are now the exceptionally rare site on the road.

Picked up this 80 series a couple of weeks ago locally in VA. Very light rust, everything except the antenna works well. 171K miles..

Interior is pretty good, needs clean up, thinking of carpet removal and wash or full replacement with stock interiors.

I can't zoom in, does it have the brown tweed interior? I've had a hell of a time finding carpet and seat fabrics.
Here you go. I think the sandstone is a close match, but not offered in the ultra plush

Very nice example of a stock 3FE. Mine was bone stock when i picked her up and 1 owner Arizona rig and has been heavily modified for the past 5 yrs of my ownership to suit my needs. Not sure if i want a stock rig tho unless it is for resale. 80s are made for offroad and rocks and it will spend the rest of its life on dirt as it is intended.

Refreshing all the rubber to try and find a leak and replaced all the small vacuum hoses with the 90999-9200x equivalent.

I found a couple houses that were bigger in diameter but can’t find info on them from Partsouq. Looks like it may be a “fuel hose” that runs from the air box, but now that I look at the diagram I think my VCV is not hooked up properly. Fuel hose is 95332-06032, but nothing pulls up. Is the a generic Toyota replacement or just go aftermarket?

Also, same situation with the PCV vent hose. Shows as 12261-61060 but no info available when I pull it up. Never mind, got it

Bought my 91 6 months ago and have been fixing issues and repainting it. Just ran into an issue that this group might be able to help with. I replaced the water pump with OEM and used an OEM gasket. Buttoned it all up and it leaked. Two questions. What spec do you torque the bolts to and do you use sealant on the gasket? Seemed to be a little leak between the two bottom bolts.

no sealant, just OEM gasket and tighten the bolts to spec. i dont have the torque spec off top of my head, but i would think no more than 15-20 lbs most...

Thanks for the info Marco Lau. I just put it on, I must say 20 lb doesn't feel like much. Now just got to fill it up and see if it leaks again. I used a sanding block to get the face nice and flat. Fingers crossed!

Just received my stockinteriors carpet with mass backing. I like the quality though there will be cutting involved.
