FNG checking in for the first time. 1992 with 212 on the clock. Bone stock except an upgraded stereo. Having issues with CEL due to missing O2 sensors. Would this cause the EFI relay to overheat and fail? I've has 2 non starting issues and learned to keep spares on hand. Always starts after replacing the EFI relay. I would rally like to find the source of the problem and fix the O2 sensors. Any one know a good old school Toyota mechanic in the Columbus, OH area? MPG is only 10-11, so it is only a weekend driver. Love driving the LC but only have a 200 mile range. My daily driver is a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I really love my OLD FJ, but it needs some help before I can take it on an overland journey.
Thanks for the great forum.

I get basically 8mpg around town as 12 or 13 on the highway in my truck, so 10-11 combined honestly doesn't sound too far off normal.

The relay overheats because the connections are corroded (usually). This is the fix- EFI Relay Pics 4 U

I'm a hillbilly, so I just replaced the wires that run to the relay with some slightly heavier gauge wires from the car stereo section at walmart and used blade connectors to attach the relay. It's been like that for years without issue. That said, o2 sensors will sure help out your mileage, however depending on how much armor and weight you are hauling, tire size, etc your fuel economy numbers are not abnormal.
Thanks for the reply and the detailed info on the pesky EFI relay problem. This is the best info I've seen on the EFI relay fix on the forum. Sounds like you solved the problem. Nice axe collection. My cousin had a Gibson SG that he played with his teeth like Jimi Hendrix. Rock on.

That's not me, although that dudes cruiser looks very similar to mine. The only thing I can pick is my nose. :rimshot:

3fe in a 91. New to me. 146k white, just replaced diff fluids, valve cover gasket, mechanic adjusted valves, exhaust and intake manifold gaskets, radiator, hoses, thermo, cap, and more. Next week driveline gets checked for the clunk when shifted to reverse, and tune up. Power steering pump from dealer is 600 bucks, that is going to wait a bit, just a slow leak

Help, struggling with spark plug closest to firewall. What a bit#$%! Any tricks will be greatly appreciated, for example sockect and wrench combo. Thanks.

Bought my first FJ today, a somewhat rough 1991 80 series... looking forward to learning all the mechanics as I bring it back from nearly dead and start building it up from there.
I'm in the same boat kinda on my new to me 91', so far did rad, hoses, belts, tune up, fan clutch, full axle service is happening this week and next. Good luck!

Since my last post I've added osidetigar's 4 hole injectors and advanced the timing to 13 degrees (@ 15 I pinged on 91) and differently feel the difference. A few more things and I will be satisfied. Been on a few trails with the truck now and love it more every trip.

I would like to do my belts next. I have read a couple of threads on it a while back, but always got confused because other members arguing about 3fe variations. If someone has bookmarked a good thread on this for the 3fe in the 91-92s, please share it. Thanks!

I am having similar issues concerning info on 91-92s. I read up on coolant flush went to do my 91 and lo and behold no petcock on the bottom of the radiator (that I saw. But I bam prone to bouts of stupidity)

Not from Mud, but here's what I used the first time I changed my belts. Make sure you record and/or remember the belt orientation (not too hard to figure out). I had a hell of a time figuring out the alternator adjustment, but once I got that done it was smooth sailing. Good luck!

Did you remove the skid plate right behind it? My radiator has been replaced--I think it's OEM--and accessing the drain plug is a lot easier with the skid plate off. There are 4 bolts holding the skid plate on. Look for the drain plug on the lower left towards the bottom of the rad... not actually on the bottom.

I found the drain plug but it looks like a beat to get. Skid plate is off. Was thinking about pulling the lower hose and flushing that way

Any tips on getting fuel filter out? Boltscwont budge w/ a wrench. Thinking about trying to get an impact down there
