I have an early '88 3FE stuffed in my FJ-55 (Build thread here: POTM - March, 2014 - Javelina By Pablo Cruise)

I am ready to get the dealer installed AC working on this Pig.

My 3FE did not come with the AC compressor and bracket. I found the right bracket and added it, but when I went to mount up my AC compressor, I found I had run my high pressure PS line right in the way. So I need to make a new PS line, but that does not matter for this thread.

I have been given 2 AC compressors that have allegedly come from 3FE engines. The bolt patterns look about right, but there are little differences.

Can anyone tell me what the origins of these compressors is? And if one is better than the other?

Thank you in advance!

For starters, the one w/o the manifold has a shorter body. I lined up the pulleys as best I could for a comparison of length:

Just popped the hood on my 92 with unmolested factory A/C to check for ya: It definitely has the shorter bodied one. I'll bet the longer one is for a 62 series 3FE (like spook had), which has several non-compatible differences from an 80 series 3FE.

If it turns out I do not need the shorter one, do you need a spare to rebuild?

I just replaced my compressor (89 FJ62) and it had the shorter compressor. I ordered the replacement from rockauto and they sent the longer one. It is going back as the manifolds are not interchangeable. Can you take a picture of your long compressors ports where the lines mount? They are covered by blue tape in the posted pics. I'm trying to tell if the lines would work with either style compressor or if they are unique.

I sure can!

I think they are different though, compare this picture from above with @Spook50 picture when he opened up his:

Quite different!

Even better, @Spook50 has a picture of the hose ports - does anyone know where I can get the hose manifold to match up to this?

While the compressors are different and the manifolds are different the face where the hoses actually attach to the manifolds (by the way I'm not sure that is the correct nomenclature, just seems to fit) makes it look like either compressor should work as long as you have the correct manifold (the lines appear to mount he same)

My truck was missing one of the lines and Deo (tlcjunktion on mud) had it and got it to me quickly

I have the question in to Deo now!
