Ha that's cool. Probably easier than taking washers in and out to get it even for those boosted folks who need the heat be gone!

Nice execution. I ran risers in my old vw days (karmann ghia's) in the summer. Common in that scene.

yeah just porting over some low-tech mods from the old days, I heard a rumor that Arbath used to do this with the Fiat....

I like your train of thought! I am looking at radio shack and other various electronic supply web sites. I just need to wrap my mind around soldering cables into the existing system because the existing switch And electrical set up is a very beautiful and simpllistic system. The switch actuator was nothing more than this plastic piece on a spring that separated the two metal contacts when compressed! So yes If I can wrap my mind around how to implement a new momentary push button switch for $3.50 then I will definitely be doing that.

I can also just ditch the old System and install an LED light to switch and install new Connectors to plug and play with the existing wiring harness.

You could also use something like any of these which are easy to fit and some come already with wires so you just have to quickly solder and then cover with heat shrink. You could also combine an LED light with these.

Thank you for the suggestions! I bought a momentary “magnet switch” aka reed switch NO/NC = normally open/normally closed magnetic actuator. however the magnetic actuator was too thick to use on the visor so I bought some flat disk magnets intending to cut and inset it into the mirror door that pulls away. I never installed it because my husband found the passenger side visor, that I forgot about, out in our back garage. I think he was getting fed up with all the sun visors and parts all over our dining room table and coffee table. I still have my old floppy driver visor and then the the spares we pulled from the 95 land cruiser that I had taken apart trying to solve this ridiculous issue.

So I just took the mirror and switch system out of the passenger visor and stuck it into the driver visor And called it good. In order to use the reed switch I would have had to do some major modification of cutting into the mirror plastic housing, Soldering the reed switch cables to the mirror light contacts... anyway if this mirror switch burns out too then I am screwed!

Can I make a request? If anyone has interest in printing something like this.
My antenna is vestigial. Might be good to have options on using the hole...
I know it's not an ideal place for comms antenna but for my needs, would be fine. perfect for a shark fin antenna/booster.

Just in case you can’t find anyone to make this for you I discovered that the most expensive part of having a 3D printing job done is paying for the CAD. local 3D printing shops will print you off anything you want as long as you bring them a cad file to print from. Now the bad news.. getting a CAD file created by those shops costs $75-$80/hr with an expectation of 2-3 hours of work and they ALWAYS require to have the part in hand. So I discovered that none of my local shops would make something from scratch for me and required my broken part in hand to build from.

So if you want to build your own CAD file use this program for free!!! Then take the file to a local shop and get your part made. There are a lot of YouTube videos showing how to Measure and use CAD software.

Do you have the time/ability to measure how much of an an effect these have on temperatures on the 80 or if you think these may serve the purpose better at a lower or higher traveling speed? I'm always on the look out for something to draw the hot air out of the bay going up steep grades.

Thanks for sharing with us your printed ideas!

So far I went up the grape vine at 55mph ac on about 95 deg, and my coolant temp was below 200. I wanted to do some tests and measure the engine bay temps with and without, just not able to yet. There are some first hand accounts here

cool! probably a shark fin but have to pick one, they all have different shaped bases :/
One thing to note is to not drop down the fender- to keep compatible with the popular safari snorkel
I'll PM later with some ideas
thank you!
@FirstToy i would gladly do it, just need easy access to the antenna hole. I'll take a peek today. I might have the old antenna parts. Whats the first thing you want to mount?

You guys that are more knowledgeable about the strength of the medium used for printing, do you think 3D printed grab handles would be strong enough to be practical? I need to figure out a solution for some grab handles for my two minitrucks and have wondered about 3D printing them.
