37s - anyone done it?

For IFS 100 series only:

I'm not sure anyone on this forum has fully investigated or fabricated or modified their rig enough to do it without extreme body lifts.

The pictures below show what is possible with firewall modification. If you have never attempted this before be careful to remove everything in the kick panels from the inside before you start cutting...

No one here has attempted much more than a small firewall trim. I think more trimming gets you to the 37" land.

Looks like some slider modification is in order also, but bolt on kits can just move them back slightly. If you have a weld on kit you'd have to trim the end as shown in the picture.

There's a few pictures about that show it can be done. What would be nice though is some more detail on how it was achieved - is it body lift, suspension lift, body trimming, or a combination? There is no doubt more than one route and it would be nice to get some detail on the pros and cons of each.

As long as I don't need to turn...

And when tucking the rear tire the fuel filler tube looked like it may come too close for comfort but it could be addressed.

This is with a 1" BL, 3/4" wheel spacer in front and 3/8" wheel spacer in back but it will still take quite a bit of trimming up front which I may be willing to do eventually, but not now. It's my daily driver. I also really like this specific 37" tire (Truxxs) because of a more rounded carcass which helps tuck a little more.
Also, I recall someone mentioning gluing w/epoxy a hockey puck in as a bump stop to limit up travel. This might get someone closer to fitting 37's, but not necessarily further down the trail with the less travel.
Really like the look though!

That's good to see. I have been exploring this for a while and think I am going to have a go. As I want to retain the AHC I am planning to lift the body by 4 inches. If any further lift is needed I will then look at raising the suspension. My hope is that this will require little/no more 'trimming' than when fitting 35s. Just collecting info and parts...

So did you buy 37s, mount them and then decide not to run them? Or are you running around with them but just not shewing with them on.

Just mounted the one on my spare wheel to test fit. Still running my 315 Duratracs. Here is a picture of the difference.

Lifting the body just one inch requires some work-arounds. (Steering, brake lines, radiator, fan) How are you going to lift the body 4 inches? It would be cheaper to just buy an 80 and leave the 100 the way it is. You'll basically have to break the entire truck down and start building it again.

4 inch lifts for the 100 have been around for a while, just not that common in the US or UK I think. Arctic Trucks do a 10cm body lift as part of their modifications to run 38-44 inch tyres and have been doing so for years. Alan Podvin also did a 4 inch lift to the 100 he ran 37s on and reckons it is by no means an overly difficult task to accomplish. In fact, he reckoned one technically minded/competent person could do it in a day.

I've been looking at a kit from Japan similar to what was originally mentioned by Hoser in this post How's your 100 Series Body Lift? This is a comprehensive kit to lift the body by 4 inches and includes radiator drop brackets, extended brake hoses, bumper relocation brackets, adapters for the steering column and transmission etc... In short, it is everything required to lift the body 4 inches.

Wasn't Podvin's vehicle a buggy setup... portal axles and all? Can't really call that a 100. Very cool though!

If you're doing this like that (buggy style) then with enough money and/or fab, anything can be done. I don't know if I'd call that a 4" body lift. Clearly, the body was off the truck, everything was fabbed and welded and put back together. So essentially it was tore down and built back up. My comments were related to the idea of just lifting the body (I.E. literally raising the body and sliding in the pucks). This ain't that.

With that said.... I'm all in. I'd love to see how you do it. It's definitely not my style, but I'd love to hear about the process and everything that was required to do it right.

No "body off" needed to achieve this. You're right thought, the body lift kit isn't cheap. For me the appeal of the kit over extensive body modification is that if I don't like the results it can be more easily reversed.

...and in case someone cares, that same 37" TrXus fits vertically inside the back of the truck where my spare tire carrier is. Barely, but it fit.

I loved that rig anyone know if its still around? is it sitting in a barn somewhere or did alan get his torch out and cut more???
