Post some pics!

Well, I'm about ready to bite the bullet on trailworthyfab's recentered beadlocks. I like the idea of the pressed center, as it's much easier to make sure they're running true as they're being made.. but how does the 3.5" backspacing they're available in work on fjz's?

Yes pics, I am thinking I will still go with the regular military treads cause I am cheap! Do some grooving a bit different then the way twf does it though. Air way down and see how they go.

Might want to mount and balance them and make sure they run straight before grooving. After he posted the picture of his (93CRUISERE) - I started wondering if his balance isssues weren't due to the grooving of the tires since I've not heard of anyone else having issues.

Thats true, I wonder how much grooving does make a difference?

good point a lot of rubber comes off during the grooving but man it sure looks cool.

I do not care about the look as much but the grooving is supposed to help the tires perform much better. I figure with the insert so I can air down to low numbers and grooving the tires will hopefully be pretty good. I do not want to struggle with traction.

that is what lockers are for.

You got any side shots man, im wanting to see the stance and looks of your rig, the guard dogs still doing well?

One thing to think about with the guard dogs is the airing down. I've run them for a couple seasons and absolutely love them. I usually air down to about 14 psi for the trail, but even with the bead locks I don't know how wise it would be to completely air down a recap tire. I would be a bit leery of completely deforming that area of the tire for an extended period of time.

But hey, someone has to push the edge of the envelope and I'm eager to hear what happens.

air down a recap tire

YEAH I have been wondering about that to.I don't want go out and destroy a new set of tires just yet.:hmm:
The guard dogs are doing good for me so far and it drives like a regaler SUV but I think I need stiffer shocks I have some body roll.we will be going to Buena VISTA CO. tomorrow till Monday so this will be the big test.I will try to get a lot of photos while we are there my kids are very excited about going and I am just along for the ride--- - -- yeah write :steer: we will see you there

airing down

this is the same tire just a differant size.Like most 4wd owners, I'm always on the lookout for different products to try out on my rigs. My 1993 FZJ80 Toyota Land Cruisers is my summertime expedition rig and my wintertime daily driver, so many things I run on the truck are a compromise between offroad performance and daily driver use.

TreadWright contacted me in early 2009 regarding their retread tires, and after some research, I decided to install a set of their newest LT 285/75R16 MTG D-range Ultra Grip tires. The tires arrived in early February, perfect for Wisconsin winter testing. This set was molded on a BFG-AT carcass and the tread pattern is nearly identical to a Goodyear MTR...the only difference is the Ultra Grip walnut shell additive...the tires have an intresting tan-speckled look to the tread blocks. And the best part? $106 apiece! (I'd go thru the process of describing their company and the manufacturing process, but their website does an excellent job of that - check there for current pricing too!)

My local tire shop (Fox Tire) is pretty used to the strange things I bring in, so when I arrived to get these installed, they were not surprised. What I didn't know is Tim used to do retreads as well, so they were quite familar with this type of product. Tim checked them over very carefully and was impressed with the quality. We pulled my chunked up old tires and got these all mounted and balanced. One tire took 4oz of weight to balance, the rest took between 1.75 and 2 ounces.

Initial impression: Ride was no different than the all-terrains I had on before. Noise was noteably higher tho, partly because of the AT to MT switch, but also because the tread blocks on the MTG TreadWrights were all the same size, so there is no 'harmonic' change. In typical Wisconsin fashion, winter was far from over, so I got to experience quite a bit of snow, slush and ice driving. Zero complaints...braking was excellent, no slip at stopsigns on the side roads, and the truck went where I pointed it.

Unfortuantely, I only got in one 'light' winter ride. Even with the tires at their street pressure of 45psi, they dug thru 12" of snow easily. They found traction where others in the group were having constant problems.

I'd like to say mileage is important, but 6000#ish truck with the aftermarket bumpers, sliders, rack, and other accessories is a wind resistance nightmare. However, despite all of this, summertime mileage on the highway is right about 15mpg. Again, impressive.

Rocks were the final test, and the Cruise Moab event in Moab Utah was the testing grounds. This time I aired down to 18psi, and hit the rocks. Again, everywhere I pointed the tires, they went...they hooked up as well as anything else on the trails and never left me wishing for more traction. More impressive, they didn't chunk the tread at all (a problem I had with my previous set).

The result? I'm a big fan...great price, great tire, good for the environment...now they just need to get some 315 sizes & now available in 37x12.50x16.5 from TRAIL WORTHY FAB INC.

I'd love to see all this retread discussion in a thread that isn't titled 37" military OZ tires as it's likely to get more input there, and be easier to search for...

retread tire

well after running the tires at 8 psi all week I had nothing but good news.
But I did get a flat on the highway after airing up to 45 psi but it was due to a side wall patch (the f u ** ing) place that balanced them somehow punched a hole in the side wall:mad: and I patched it and it let go after three trail runs.
I did suffer some side wall cuts but still hold air so far.The tire did perform awesome with grate traction.I am concerned about the side wall vulnerability.I think I need some side wall protection like big side lugs.

Looks like you are having fun with them! We have had great feedback as to how the guard dogs do offroad (as well as on).

I didn't read the entire thread but I can see where people are calling them caps. Not the case, They are retreads. Made exactly like a new tire (not like a cap). They have a warranty that even new tires do not 2 yr 24000 miles. We do own the rights to the 37" Guard dog and they are less money if purchased from me.

BFG Baja T/A 37x12.50-16.5

Finally starting to show up! $129 still ain't bad either!

We are the only ones out there that have this tire (that I know of) I will attach a link. I did a blow out price of 129 each and I will not be able to offer that price for very long. The BFG's I have in stock are all 95% and better and the BFG's flat out get it. Great tire and a give away of a price.

Take care,

trail worthy fab

Todd I have to hand it to you and your crew:clap: You guys make a sweet wheel / tire comb and give the customer service we all deserve in a time when its not so easy to spend a tun of money to do the wheelin we like to do.
I like the traction of the guard dog I just need to learn to place my tires on the rocks better I think most tire side walls will get cut with a truck the can weigh over 7000lbs still at 179.00 for a 37 "tire + or - its not the end of the world to get a new tire .
A BIG THANKS TO ANDY a.k.a.( DOOKEY )at twf
he is a stand up guy and take the time to
talk on the phone and help you out with
what ever it takes to get you what ever combo
you need or just one tire.
THANKS T.W.F.
