Damn that is a brutal one. Maybe I will consider a spare. But where the heck do you put one ? I don't know if it'd fit in the cargo area standing up, and I won't have a rear swing out bumper for a while

It'll fit. ;)

And this one might be worse (not nearly as tough of a tire tho). Regardless of the tire, if you get 6k-7k lbs at 20-30 MPH going into a root or tree trunk...it'll go through.

I'm guessing it's a tree root or other piece of organic matter that has decided to become one with the sidewall of his tire.

exactly

You can fix that sidewall. It's not as bad as it looks.

Seriously? Wow man that's shady stuff

Why? It would be a spare (it's the 5th tire in a set of 4), so would be a limp home tire only.

The technology is there to fix sidewall damage, even fairly severe damage. Is it as good as original? No. Is it good enough to get you out of the woods and to a tire shop? Absolutely.

Most shops here in Oregon won't touch them due to liability reasons. Not even liability in Oregon, but due to liability in California thanks to stupid regulations and courts.

I once had a tire that had a nail in the shoulder, where the tread meets the sidewall. Tire shop wouldn't touch it. It's really gone overboard.

BTW the damage isn't as bad as you'd think. Once the tree trunk was pulled, you could barely see the hole. Remember that rubber stretches, so you can fit a lot bigger piece of wood in a smaller hole than you might think.

(Geez, hope no one takes that out of context. )

Hahhahah.
I guess your right. For a 5th tire ( spare ) I wouldn't trip.

yes fix doesnt mean good as new, fix can mean patch, mend, prolong

btw I was being sarcastic

I picked up a spare 35 for $15. Or some tire shops leave tires out back from people to grab because they'd have to pay to dispose them. Anyway, there are always options. I ran some free back door tires for about a year and sold them later to cover my new ones when I had some money.

wow 15$
thats a good deal

Not hard around here either to pick up a spare in most sizes for cheap. Last 2 "spare" 35's were under $20. Like said, check the tire stores and CL.
