I have a 96 fzj80 I'm currently running 33s, stock gears, and an OME 2.5 inch heavy. I would like to upgrade to at least 35s but I was wondering if it was possible to even put 37s on. I am going to put a 1 inch body lift and 30mm spacers. My concerns are will 37s fit and will my 80 spin them enough to clear mud out, with stock gears. I will only be using the 37s for off-road trips and keep the 33s on for on road use. Any advice is helpful.

5.29/37 is a bit below(higher rev for mph by like 7%) the factory gearing/tires and she scoots along just fine. I had 4.10s for a long time while getting the diffs geared and it was fine as a DD. technical wheeling or towing more than a small trailer with axle parts in the mountains would bring the suck though.

There aren't many mountains where I live in louisiana so I'm good there and I won't be running 37s full time, and thanks for the info .

My plan someday is 4.88's and 37's. Currently on a J lift with some spacers yielding around 3.5-4" inch.

Yes, they will fit. Personally I like a heavy duty 2" lift, the 1" body lift gives that much extra clearance for full stuff. That said, once you get 35's you'll want 37's. So if its even a consideration now....get the 37's.

Or, shoot in the middle with some Michelin XL's...

The XLs are getting hard to find in my part of the world. i can get H1 tires for about 50 bucks each but the XLs are now in the 200 range and for that price i might as well get something a little nicer on the road. mind if i ask what they cost where you live?

I found a 46" for $150

Agreed, same here and everywhere. Once the military quit spec'ing the tires, they've dried up. I found this new set locally, they still had the nubbies on them. I presumed he got them from Canada but never confirmed that.

To the OP, they measure 36.5 have J rated sidewalls, tuck inside the fenders without rubbing (OME J lift), balanced with airsoft pellets, have taken it up to 80 without issues. I like them much better than Swamper SSR's (35x10.5) I ran on my FJC...

Your crawl ratio in low with take an awful hit with 4.10's and 37's. Been there.
The OP is in Baton Rouge. Besides Perkins Road on Friday at 3:30pm, or Siegen Lane on Saturday morning, I'm not sure what's to crawl 'round here... :-)

the way I see it .. you can live longer with 35" and stock gears than 37" and stock gears .. at some point you will want to re gear .. so the question I would do to myself is .. it's regear con my plans .?

More less the same with the suspension .. you probably will want to go higher on lift or start cutting fender to open more space for those 37" when flexing ..

Haha I've got a spot by sicily island it's catahoula recreation.

There's plenty of mud there at Catahoula Recreation.

I run 37's with SLEE's 4" in the front and OME heavies in the rear, 2" bump stop drops all the way around, and the rear tires get into the rear section of the fender well when aired down at full compression. I have a 1" body lift that should remedy that and help address a few other things.

I ran 37's and stock gears for a while and although they got me from A to B, 4.88's were a welcomed addition.

Some people don't agree, but once you go 37's put in chromoly axles. I broke two OEM's before making the switch and Catahoula Recreation takes claim of one of them.

I've been planning on putting chromoly axles and birfields on sometime soon, and do you think 4.56's would be enough?

If you are going to go through all of that trouble, go with 4.88's. There is no price difference, so what makes you want to go to 4.56's?

So I can get up to highway speeds easier, wouldn't it bring it back to the amount of pep it had with stock size tires? I'm a amateur on gears so correct me if I'm wrong.

Closest to stock you can get with 37's is to go with 5.29's, on 35's it would be 4.56's. Quite a few threads out there.

The main reasons people who run 37's don't run 5.29's are that you have to clearance the housing on the front axle and they were notoriously weaker. A recent thread has debunked the claims of them being weak and, to me, has proven that it's all about how well they are set up.
