Anyone running 33x12.5 on stock 15 rims. I’ve read it’s not recommended to be over 10.5 width but wondering if folks are doing it and what the ride is like. Looking at Kenda Klevers.

The stk wheel is 5 1/2" wide? Some folks have had the stk wheels widened. It reminds me of putting 15.5" wide boggers on 8" wheels. We had 2 people pressing down on the tire with an 8ft bar, while another was operating the old tire machine. There was no need for beadlocks.

Get the Kendas and don't look back.

I’ve run 33x12.50 on 8” rims… and that’s about the narrowest I’d run… perhaps 7”, but 5.5” is less than 1/2 the width.

Many have successfully mounted 33x10.50s on stock rims… an equal number have said you shouldn’t. I’ve got 33x10.50s on 8” spokes, and I wouldn’t go less than 7”.

Mine had 12.5" tires on wider-than-stock mag wheels when I bought it. It got waaay easier to steer, after I put 33x10.5 tires on stock steel wheels.

I'd have to agree. When i went from 33x12.50 Geolander ATs to 33x10.50 BFG ATs it no longer wandered all over the road, and it took a lot less effort to steer.

Now after installing castor shims, extended, power steering... The wheel now returns to center after a sharper turn.
Mind boggling for a 40 series that was originally had Armstrong steering.

Back in the 80's when I bought my 1st set of wheels and tires, I purchased 31-10.50X15 BFG AT's. The shop supplied 10" wide aluminum slots wheels. I really didn't know anything about wheels and the tires were the fad at the time. Since then, if I run 32"-33x10.50's or 35-10.50's , the max rim width is 7" wide or less, like the stk Toyota steel wheels. If I run a 33x12.50 or 36x12.50 I'll run a max 8" wide wheel. I'll probably never go back to a 10" wheel and my max tire size will probably be no larger than 36" tall. I find no need for anything larger. The 8" wide wheel seems to just fit under the body without sticking out too far, unlike a 10" wheel.

10.5" on stock wheels is a popular set up
But it is considered not safe by most big tire shop and they will not mount them, and you want to mount 12.5 on stock 5.5 wheels 🤔
Yeah I have corporate tire shops refuse to but 10.5 on my stock wheels so I end up taking them to a used tire shop without any problems.

Same issue around here. This has made me want to go with 16" wheels and run 235/85R16's. Taller than the 31x10.5 the previous owner installed, and about 1.25" narrower.
