I'm also going to test the Professional Rustoleum Spray can product. My son is 5, we will probably take this apart and rebuild it in 5 years so I really want to put budget build $50 paintjob / Spraycan Rustoleum to the test. I may just wax the primer. meh.

I am using the Rustoleum spray on my cruiser. I tested it on the top fender and it looks pretty good for a rattle can. I went with the Almond color. I'm happy with it so far...

Last night I decided to go with the 2F or 3FE engine / 4spd. Today I picked up a FJ60 that was wrecked... it has the H55F. Score. I'll pull it out tomorrow. It has headers and a webber carb... completely desmogged. Also has some OME Heavy 3" lift springs in rear and medium 3" lift up front that I'll be selling. The axles off this rig will go to a buddie that I gave my other FJ40 to. A little side step here and there to avoid the full price of what stuff costs. It delays the project some but makes it practical for me to build. I may have to cut back on the build and spend some time selling junk so I can pay off these investments... :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

Ever get so into your work that your wife makes you take off all your clothes "before" you enter the house?

Got some done today. Picked up another 60 which took 5 hours so had a start time of 1pm. Was still able to get 7 hours of work out of my fat self.

Pulled the front clip off the 60 and pulled out the interior. The Axles are going to "Marks Toy", the Body is going to Canada. The drivers door to Mass and the dash to Michigan. The frame will go to the back yard with the 4 other FJ60/62 frames. The rest will get catologued and put in bins.

Before I disconnected anything I warmed the engine up, Opened the choke up fully on the webber carb, pulled the plugs and took some compression readings.

It was about 15 off at most. Seems like a good engine. The top end was worked on recently. It drove very strong and shifted nice. I think It needs a new rear main seal though. The tranny 5 spd tranny has 6k on it. The transfer was rebuilt as well and installed when the 5spd was. The guy I got it from was a great guy. His daughter snuck out and wrecked the truck. Doh!

Back on track - Disconnected the drivelines and everything else and pulled the engine out. Put it on a little cart for now up against the wall.

I'm hoping to take my Chia's to the Cruiserheads meeting on Tuesday, stopping by Basher's house so we can bend out that rear sill just before the meeting.

Who said thanksgiving? Now that I have the drivetrain you weren't far off! I should have the drivetrain in within 3 weeks.

Has anyone ever used a 60 Harness in a 40? Seems very possible. Maybe there are too many wires though and not enough dash?

Here are some pictures of today's events.

Brute strength. For a minute I though I was pulling a horse instead of it pulling me.

A little tug - Yes, thats a FJ60 grill screwed to my ceiling. I'm running out of room to put crap

One of the best investments - The adjustable engine chain.

It makes a huge difference. I forgot. You guys all know this crap. I'm in the Hardcore corner. I'm probably doing it wrong :princess:

Engine out and placed on Cart

I consider myself very blessed to have picked up this H55f for half what it costs and a truck wrapped around it. Very blessed! It was on craigs for 4 days and no one went out to look at it

Thats it for tonight. Get to head to church tomorrow at 9am and then may squeeze an hour or so in later in the afternoon.

I think the effort required to put a 60 harness into a 40 would be greater than the effort to just install a new harness into the 40 and the results would probably be less than ideal. Just go with a new aftermarket harness, Mike.

ps You look like your Grandma. :)

haha...

Got a few things done today after a convicting sermon.

Took a load of junk to the dump, wet sanded the interior of the body (cause it was raining), then loaded the 40 body up. Matt came over for a taillight and we hung out for a few.

Rolled Chia's frame into the garage and haven't done a thing since. Maxin and relaxin.

IMO, you ain't geared low enough for the trail w/ that tranny & stock axles. I'd suggest 4.88's. You're making a ton of progress in such a short time. Good to see you got the drivetrain nailed down. Hope you have awesome wiring skillz as I would not want to tackle that rewire job.

Thanks for the light. Just thinking of what else I need. Need more money for stuff.

Matt, I'm honored to be your first post! Official welcome to mud salute! :flipoff2: Like I said Matt, you can have those springs under that new Cruiser picked up. There is no bump stop action on them. Just help me pull them and they are yours.

Thanks Hamma, I'll go with your suggestion. Like everything else, I need to read up on 4.88's and how to switch them out. I might have a buddy Tim and Clary's Tranmision in Seattle put those in though. What vehicle would I find those in. Forgive me for my ignorance.

I couldn't stop with what I did today. My wife took off to go watch a couple's kids and I headed back out to the Garage. Torched off the front bumper supports and 350 engine mounts. Then tacked up the outboards. It literally took 15 minutes.

Few more. The last picture is a 7" outboard. I will cut it in half and make 2 out of the one. Then I'll have my rear outboards. RuffStuff is a hard core product. I just wanted to mess around with the welder. The outboards will come off so I can prime and paint the bare metal inside.

I'll quote you again cause I didn't address the rewire statement. I'm actually thinking about using the FJ60 harness. The engine will be plug and play, tail and head lights will be plug and play, the only thing I need to address (I suppose this could be a big task) is the interior junk.

The waterproof painless kit is $649!!!! WTF???

I was looking on the Painlesswireing.com website. That price is a little better.

Major thanks to CruiserDrew and LCS for getting some Front engine brackets out to me! I'm stoked to get these bolted in tomorrow night and then check out the fitment of the 60 series engine mounts... Someone said it wont fit. I'm wondering if I got the FJ40 2F engine mounts if it would. I'm thinking yes.

Haven't been able to dedicate a ton of time because all my efforts have been on getting rid of the parts from the 60 rig that held the H55/Engine combo for Chia.

Too bad the engine's in good shape, or you'd have an excuse to slap the top end of a 3FE on it. :)

Ya dude, bring it over.

That engine will make it even better! This build keeps getting better all the time. The 3FE with a 5 speed will be plenty of power.
