Cleaning up around the yard tonight and getting ready to haul quite a bit of scrap metal away.

I can't imagine this box has any value?? I was thinking of maybe drilling out the spot welds on the tie down hooks on the side and keeping those. Wondering if that's even worth it? I'm guessing the tailgate is junk also?

Someone else might see something I don't? I wouldn't care if I gave it away, just don't want to throw away something someone might need?

stuff

Matt, if your soon to be disposed of bed/tailgate have the hooks that mount ot the bed (that hte tailagate latches too), I could sure use those. Also if you have a spare set of chains for the tailgate, I could se those too. Let me know.

P.S. All of your work is beautiful and inspiring.

Brian

The latches and hooks were donated to my neighbor's 40 ford project

He is incorporating some Toyota trash into that Detroit junk ;p I'm pretty sure I still have the chains sitting out in the shop, all that stuff came with the new box.

No problem on holding off on it going to the scrap yard. That's why I asked :D

Thanks, Matt

This part looks pretty good....:grinpimp:

Managed to drive some of my junk over that car show about 20 miles away today. The wife, neighbor and myself each drove a vehicle over.

Pretty decent turnout, about a 100 cars...at least that is decent for this area. It was hotter than hell, about 90F with a real feel of a 100F, humidity was very high. Lots of fun, I just love watching peoples reaction when they see the wagon and now the truck. Had a book I made up on each one, showing the start to finished process. Really fun to see peoples expresion when they see that.

Both the LV and LPB were entered in the truck class. Both lost out to 1st and 2nd place, but that's ok...there were several other trucks there mostly earlier Detroit stuff and they were all really nice...so they deserved to win anyway. The LV did manage to win a, "sponsor's choice" trophy. So the wife was all happy, since I entered the lv in her name ;) Pic of her up there recieving it. Also an overall pic of a few cars and my neighbors 40 Ford parked next to us. He won best work in progress trophy.

That might be about it for shows for a while, nothing coming up. Kinda hoping to start driving the lpb more...so not going to be so show worthy after a bit. ;p

i think winning trophies is all good but matt you should be so proud of your skill and talent, to me from a production designer point of view your stuff is immaculate. whether the hotrods win or not does not matter. i am sure you had the only japanese truck and suv there. be proud to be different . wish you could bring your rigs out to socAL. as for me i applaud yout works of art and craftmanship. another last point i believe the recent studies shows that TOYOTA is #1 in sales currently in the USA so enough said abou detroit. BANZAI! BANZAI!BANZAI!!! long live the land of the rising sun

Your right, I did have the only Japanese truck and suv there:) And whether I win or lose does matter to me, I just go there for fun and show some of my junk off a little bit ;p

It's a lot of fun to watch people walk by and look, and then pick up the books I have on each truck and see the transformation both have gone through. If anything, I get more enjoyment out of it than the others.....I imagine that's why I go.

And as far as bringing them to Socal....you never know ;)

Thanks, Matt

there are some very differently heighted people in that trophy presentation photo. congrats on the win. i think the problem is your restorations make the trucks look so stock and original that people maybe aren't quite aware of what went into them. you need to put up some before photos from this thread.

There are some very tall and short people in that photo...doesn't help that my wife is about 5' 9".

I do have the before, during and after photo's in a 3 ring binder that I bring with. I think you can see them sitting on each front bumper on the lv and lpb. That is why I asked last week on a different thread about the history of the lpb. I have a little half page intro that explains the history of the lpb and my particuliar truck. Problem is, only about 2 % of the people that walk by pick up the book with the pictures. The ones that do are blown away by the before and after. An easel set up with pictures would be a way to make sure people saw the pics, but the 3 ring binder is a lot easier to haul around and just throw out on the front bumper.

P.s.......lv handles......:D

Scrap bed parts

Matt,

Your truck looks awesome! Ive been following this thread religiously. It has been the inspiration for my lpb project. I haven't really got started yet as Im trying to acquire the proper facilities for such a project. About the bed you are going to scrap. I too could use a floor patch panel. Also need the outer portion of both sides of the wheel wells. Previous owner cut out the original and rivited in an aluminum rig, im assuming for wider tires or something. Can't tell from any of your pics if they are still there and what kind of shape they are in. They wouldn't have to be perfect, just something to get me started. Check out the pics. Let me know. Thanks!

Adam,

Took a pic tonight of what's left. A few pieces of the floor went to another mudder for patch panels, so not much of that left. The edges of the wheel wells are nothing to write home about either.

You can see in the pics how they look. If you are interested I will gladly cut out what you want. You tell me where you want it cut, pay the freight and a few extra bucks for firing up the gas ax. If it's something you think you can work with, more than happy to help out! :)

Thanks, Matt

Matt,

Thanks for the pics. Like you said they are definitely nothing to write home about, but should be enough there to get me started. The upper compound bends are what I was most worried about and they seem to be fine. Attached is a pic where to cut them both. After looking at my pic of the floor holes again, I should just be able to patch that with some small pieces of sheet metal so I guess I can skip that. I will shoot you a PM too with the details. Thanks a ton for this, it will be a big help. :D
