3.73 gears

Why would anyone do that?
I can see his point. Depending on your 80's intended purpose higher gears may be desirable for strictly highway and expedition use since a diesel makes better low RPM power. Maybe not so much with a toyota diesel but if I swapped in a cummins for expedition travel I would not want to spin it 2500 RPM for hours on those long road trips. Different strokes for different folks.

2 year old link but I thought I would share.......
I just recently received a 373 gear set for the FJ80 from Marks4wd in Australia and I have run into an interesting problem. The usual 30306 outer pinion bearing is too small to slide onto the rear pinion shaft. The pinion shafts have all been 30 spline as far as I know but this one is a larger 32 spline. It's massive. Thought someone might have run across this concern. I just emailed Australia and waiting.

Stock 410 pinion on left.

The pinion bearings inside diameter needs to be almost .120" larger to slide over. Maybe some later model 70 or 80 series?

Ok....I'll keep the loop open....maybe with some interesting pics of the 373 install...and the quirks.
I think I found the outer pinion bearing part number that will fit the larger 32 spline shafts.....
90366-33006 This bearing is supposed to have a 33mm ID where s the 30306 common bearing is 30mm Inside Dia.

Cool. I spent a lot of time backtracking the reverse way around to find the 33006 number. I verified it against the seal they sent and the splash guard too. I referenced an 08 LX570 and it took the same seal and splash guard so the 33006 it also showed was going to be the ticket I figured.

My 3.55 gears from Marks had no issues on bearings. They where designed for a solid spacer so I had to machine some clearance for the crush sleeve but other wise direct fit. Did you get any feedback from them. Just to make sure they didn't ship the wrong set. I was amazed with the custom service. I baught a 20 min international calling card and used like 3-4 min if I remember correctly in dealing with the order and questions during the order process late in the night catching them at the start of their day

Out of curiosity why didn't you just go with a solid spacer?

230k on the original crush sleave with no issue. I'm an engineer and have never really seen much benifit to a solid for DD use. Just extra install time. I really don't want this post to be about spacers. There are many covering that. I've posted in some.

Give Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters a jingle, he carries a good selection of Koyo bearings and likely knows the correct one?

I might do that but I just called up the local Toyota parts dept and ordered one. He said there were only 7 of that bearing # in the USA and one of them is heading to Chandler right now.
I did some more research mainly using ToyoDIY.com and Looked at the FZJ79 european models and they do take that 33006 bearing.
