Does this carb have an idle solenoid.

I see all the idle solenoids in the FSM for all the other carbs.... only problem is my F engine FSM doesn't have a very good description of this particular carb.

I don't have any vacume leaks and steady vacume, but I can't seem to get it to idle smooth at 650rpm. It does ok at about 900rpm and up and runs pretty smooth for a 40 year old truck. i just can't get it to idle where I need it so I can fine tune it.....

Yes. It should be connected to the only wire hanging off the carb. Check the carb pictures at sor.com

Aha! The thing with the wire hanging out of it? Mine does not have a wire hanging out of it. Therefore I am quite positive it does not work. Be kinda hard for it to work without any power????

I have the same issue, my wire is broke at the opening. Anyone know of a way to open it up???

Seems to work without it just fine tho...

I am not familiar with that particular carb. The "solenoid" looks strange in the sense that it has a fluid connection at the top and bottom and I don't know what they do. SOR lists idle fuel solenoids for all carbs since '58. so that it the only thing that could be a solenoid. The ones I am familiar with have a needle valve and if you remove the needle, they won't shut off.

Yours must be stuck in the open position and mine must be stuck closed......:bang:

bigasschunk, don't assume this part is the source of your problem. You know the old saying about assuming...........

What is your vacuum reading at idle?

Your timing?

Is there gas dribbling out of the emulsifier nozzle at the lowest idle setting you can keep the truck running at?

Answers to these questions will net you more [and better] advise from the collective.

No.

The 3/69-9/69 carb as pictured does not have an Idle Cutoff Solenoid.

The carb does have an Air Bypass Solenoid. It opens and allows air around the throttle plate to prevent excessive richness under overrun conditions. The ABS can be discarded and fittings capped off.

Thanks for this info. I was worried more than I needed to be...
