Anyone install a frost plug block heater in a 2LTE and know the size? or where to find the size without removing the frost plug (as I have to drive quite a ways to NAPA)?

Did you find anything on which Block heater to install ?

I just bought a Tempro off the shelf from NAPA autoparts for my 2LTE. They carry the line and had lots of different ones in stock. I went with the 3100024. I'll be installing it in the next few days, but I've heard from other owners that it fits perfect.

So that part number that I used is intended for the first generation L, 2L and 2LT engines (pre 1989). It did not fit that well in my 2LTE, but I was able to make it work ok with a bit of modification. Here is the catalog that has the part numbers for the Tempro heaters: https://phillipsandtemro.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/2016-Zerostart-Catalog.pdf The one that I used is for a 35mm bore diameter. You can see they have quite a few of them listed there for Toyota motors including the 2H and 3B diesels. A mix of 35mm and 40mm bore diameter.

The trick is getting the element to fit in the cooling jacket at the right angle. I think that is where every motor is different.

Edit: Here is a picture of the block heater in my engine shortly after I installed it.:

Thanks for the follow up. Yeah it's always tricky to find block heater s for JDM's. Not only the right plug size, and position in the block, but even the way it is clocked. As you say, clearance can be a problem.

I guess my first job will be to find an accessible frost plug and mic it, once I get the truck. Maybe a little digging in partsouq too, to see if they list the bore size of the frost plugs?

I'll follow up here in case anyone else is interested. As the years go by, more 1kz's will make it into the us and someone may want to do the same?

Can't be any more difficult than my mitsu 4m41 i hope. Way upon the block, under the turbo. Good times.

Seems 35mm is pretty common on a lot of Toyota’s. I just installed one the other day on a 1PZ, it’s 35mm and the one I used is for Toyota’s.

Cheers

Good day mate, I just imported a 3.2 Pajero into Canada and i want to install a block heater on it. I see in this post you may have some info on fitting one. Do you recall what size you used and where it went into the block? Thanks for help !!

It's been about 4 years since I did that one. Lemme do some digging and I'll update. Actually, I'll post it over in the lonely mitsu section and link it here. 😂

Ask and ye shall receive.

I've gotten lots of help since I've been working on land cruisers, so if I can pay it back in Mitsu credits, so be it. ;)
