Apologies if this is elsewhere. Does anyone know whether these numbers are universal around the world? I'd assume they are.

Josh, why don't you post up your info and we can find out? :)

Hey Matt,

I don't have the exact number with me as I didn't drive the 40 today, but the VIN is FJ40369774 and the engine (which I thoght was original given it only has 88,000 miles and the CFS had no record of an engine swap when I bought it seven years ago with 50,000 miles) is something like 2F 198256; which would indficate that it is from a '77 or '78.

Interestingly, I never looked at the number before, but I just sourced a 1987 low mile 2F which I am going to put in her, so was looking at the details for the first time.

I am certain the head is from a newer rig though, as it has the bolts to hold my power steering pump, so it can't be older than '79. My plan is to rebuild the non-smog head from my engine to put on the smog 87 2F, but now I am not so sure. I plan to swap all of my non-US goddies to the new engine (no smog pump, etc.) but now I am thinking that I may just buy the threaded plugs for the exhaust injectors and keep the US head.

Given I have to assume that my engine does not have the age-appropriate domed pistons (as it looks to be a '77 or '78), I wonder whether my head will fit on an '87 2F.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on my plan; pros/cons of a final-year 2F vs. an older one. I know the head was changed slightly by Toyota in 1981, but was the bottom end changed at all? How do I know what cam I have? Is there a difference between early and late 2F cams?

Thanks in anticipation.

Josh

Sorry, this is HJ47. I forgot I was logged in on my work computer as Chamba.

2F Engine Serial & year Info

Sorry I am late to this post,

Today is 3-14-13, The Block Serial #2F815823, was on the passenger side of engine near the firewall, the Donor Block 1985, was from a Fork Lift, sorry no VIN number available.

Just got this rebuilt 2F installed, had an oil leak at the front end plate gasket,
behind the plate, not the timing cover gasket
Toyota said the cut off dates for this part# 11312-61011: was pre 10/84
and the cut off for this part#11312-61021: was post 10/84 thru 8/87

I Contacted the guy who sold me the engine, he said it came out of a 1985 Fork Lift,
said he had gone to great length to assure all the external bolt holes would line up
with his old 2F from his FJ60, then never actually installed it. It sat in his garage with a tarp over it for 3 years, then sold it to me.

Hope this helps someone else.

Basically rust free, 69XXX miles. Undergoing a frame-off restoration.

Edit to add

Forgot to mention the above FJ has a three speed Transmission and a three position Transfer Case. I think it was a transition model but I am open to your thoughts.

Hit me with a stick and stand me in the corner

Well, after some more research and reading other posts I have come to the conclusion that my '74 has has an engine transplant. My apologies for posting without thinking.

1975 FJ45RP-KQ (tray back ute, was the local fire brigade support vehicle)
Frame # FJ45-101006
Engine# 2F0031761

Boyanup, Western Australia
Lauren and Jan Kerckhofs

It was vaguely running with some help of petrol down the carby, but had been sitting on a farm for 5 years before that.
Half stripped, will be restoring it over the next few years!

I have a 2F that the engine number appears to be 2F 0026628. The engine number looks like it was stamped by a monkey on acid though. This would indicate it to be a real early engine, 1974-'75 vintage? It's in an '81 build FJ 45 though. It has the early rocker cover with the push in oil cap but the post 1980 large cap distributor. Go figure.:meh:

Build date August 77

VIN FJ40 - 255238

Engine number 2F-193997

Sep 1976
2F115943 is the engine
232428 is the body vin since I can't find the frame number on the right front frame rail.
