What Spike said. and......Even if you don't have the PCV hose...make sure all of the carb and intake manifold vacuum ports are sealed.

I followed this pretty carefully so I think the timing is on. What variable could I be missing with the timing? Thanks
Are you sure the #1 piston (at radiator side of engine) was at TDC on Compression stroke?

Still needs to be fully timed, but I got it baselined and running. Timing and valve adjustment tomorrow.
Runs pretty nice and smooth but not a lot of power up above about 2800 rpm. I'm hoping tomorrow's tune-up will fix it.

Where did you set the timing? Bumping it up around 9-11 can help with squeezing out a little more power.
