Does anyone know what the bolts on the heads above the exhaust manifold are for? There is one bolt for each cylinder and they are directly above each exhaust port.

They are circled in red

Thanks!!

Someone screwed bolts in to block off the exhaust gas ports that used to be on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation tube that they removed. Most people put some short plugs in the threaded holes.

Air injection distribution pipe would have attached to these fittings.

This. You can replace them with pipe plugs if you want to clean it up. Jim C. (@FJ40Jim) sells them.

Those are the air rail fittings with something plugging the inlet where the EGR pipe would go.

You can remove the fittings and replace with plugs as mentioned above. Or just leave them alone if they are not leaking.

They are not gong to come out easily. You do NOT want to break one off. Use break free fluid of some kind and let it sit, add more and let it sit, etc.

Maybe others can add what has worked for them.

Air injection distribution pipe would have attached to these fittings. That's what you were going to say, right Doug?

That will teach me to look at a close-up of the picture next time ! Thanks.
