Hi Matt,

I would get a new ignition barrel, its not worth mucking around with. You know they are on ebay and everywhere else, but I bought a brand new one last year off a Toyota dealer. I walked in and asked, the bloke behind the counter went out the back for 5 mins came back with a brand new one with two keys, said it had been sitting there for years!

PS. When are you heading off to Canada!

Fly into LA 16th June head out from LA in the 40 Alaska bound 18th June. Flights booked, shipping the truck around April I think. to be there beginning of June.

So you are driving from LA up to Alaska? Going up I-5 freeway through California, Oregon and Washington and then, up the AlCan Highway, or by ferry and the Inland Passage up the coast of British Columbia?

If you go up the I-5 freeway through Oregon you'll be going within 1 1/2 miles of me. There are several Mud members north of me in the Portland area. I know when you are on a trip like this time is limited but if anything is needed I'd be available to help and I'm sure there are others also willing. How are you set for road maps?

Think this is the route D'Animal had in mind for the US.

My idea is for Matt Mcinnes and I to leave central California the morning of the 18th and heading to Las Vegas. We load Maces mobile kitchen and his camping gear in my rig. Continue north on Hwy 15 through Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Montana.

Different route from I-5. You'll be going way east of Oregon. Way less populated than the I-5 corridor but you'll see some more scenic country. Then you'll be connecting up with the AlCan (Alaska-Canada) Highway. Never been up there but pics I've seen are of some fantastically scenic country.

As always been slack, but now its time to prep for Alaska, just nice timing to take the truck off the road and get on my bicycle due to the 3 month :ban: :D

Good job it's only 3k's to work :grinpimp::grinpimp:

The supports are at last drawn up and off to the laser cutters.

Now for the bottom bar 1100mm x 50 x 50 of Box section.

The swing outs will sit on GM stub axles.

Went with a nice 50 x 50 box section that's 6mm thick and 1100mm long.

Going with a left and right too to cut down on weight and stress. Rather than one long single swing out.

The right side with the fridge will be slightly longer.

Well the 2F-ETI is coming up for it's second birthday and apart from a blown head gasket early on all I have had to do is change the oil. The head gasket was replaced with a factory Toyota one and since then not an issue. Might change the plugs this year :D

Also for the first time I have done a 180 mile run on the freeway just cruising along at 62 mph, with a result of 13mpg.

Had to pass on Alaska, just too busy with the spin of business of Intercoolers from building the 2F-ETI.

Getting even busier now as this Patrol with its 200+rwkw TD42 Turbo Diesel took out first in the Red Dirt comp in WA.

Good to hear that your business is doing well. Bummer to hear about Alaska. :crybaby:

Time to build a new TOY

I thought about picking up an 80 with a 3F and tearing the 40 apart.

But I just can't do that to it.

I'd rather start over. It's not the money but the fun of building.

To compete competitively we need to move to a longer wheel base and coils. Don't get me wrong the 40 is a ball to compete in but don't expect to win either leafs and SWB are not a wining combination.

So most likely a 75 as the 80 is a little wide for comp.

If it does not sell it will become a weekend toy, if I can find room at the inn :D

Cool, the new 76/78/79s are pretty damn nice - expensive though.:bang:
