I picked up an 85 4runner a few months ago, with a great body and not so great everything else. First priority will be the smoking, weak 22re, and a leaky W56 tranny. Who would you buy a long block 22 from? Thanks,

Val

I'd just rebuild it with a kit from engnbldr, throw a cam, header, and these new injectors at it should make it quite the happy little puppy mill.

I would do what rrdneck92 said.
In that way you can be sure what you put in there and how you put it. Lce is pricey. But they have some things that hard to find anywhere else.
And engnbldr has a very good reputation with their kits, plus their pricing is very reasonable.
All you need is a reputable machine shop to get the grinding done

I would do some homework and find a reputable machine shop in your home town. Then pull the engine and take it to them. A leaky tranny is easy with the engine out. Don't forget a new clutch and to resurface the flywheel.

While the engine is out I would remove the engine harness and peel back the tap and repair the splices which I'll bet are corroded.

Thanks guys! It's going to Safari ltd in Grand Junction next week, wee'll see what they say.

I have built a few engines us to say ing all Rock parts, and I have to say all the stuff sucks but the paper gaskets, pistons and chain kits. the oil pumps leak big time and the bearings are only good for 35K miles

Hey if you don't want to use safari ltd you could use metric off-road also they specialize in rebuilt 22 r motors also they have tons of used parts for most trucks. 970-270-3332 they are also I'm grand junction

valor61, did you buy ian's black runner?!! there's always dave who used to work out of the shop next to taco bell, he's real good at rebuilding 22re's, built one that my x bought, she's beat the crap out of it, and it's still going strong...and monty's can do the machine work..
