Fwiw, online posts have 8.7 for the LC and 9.6 for the GX but don’t think official numbers are out yet.

I think the GX has an off-road trim with bigger tires than the land cruisers as well as a lift kit. That could be it.

What's the difference between Fords full time and Toyotas Full time 4WD systems?

Yes, it's very hard to do an unreliable mild-hybrid. It's a lot simpler and dumb system than a real hybrid like a Prius.

Think of it as a starter that would always be in gear (instead of having a solenoid to connect) and ca be reverse to either generate electricity (as an alternator), start the engine (as a regular starter), or assist the ICE engine with a little bit more torque. Actually you can even have 1 less active component in your engine bay as it can replace the alternator and the starter.
There are even companies that currently work on aftermarket mild-hybrid systems to adapt to engines that did not have it originally.

Ford managed to screw it up by incorporating the electric motor INTO the automatic transmission...FML.

I very much hope they reconsider releasing this truck with the Toyo Open Country 3s. I run them on my Tundra TRD PRO and they are TERRIBLE in the rain.

So far, they have worn evenly and well...I think I have close to 30k on them but they will need to be replaced soon. Off road they work exceptionally well but for daily driving they are somewhat loud with road humming and handling is much stiffer. I'm sure this will turn off the Lexus crowd who expect a plush ride.

Not sure if Toyota offers it somewhere but Suzuki even installs this kind of setup with manual transmissions.

Braking doesn’t completely charge a battery though. I’m guessing that sometimes the battery will charge from the IC engine while it is running or maybe when it is idle or something

The mild-hybrid "starter" is reversible and can generate current.
Then it's just an ECU job to decide when to send current to this electric motor to generate torque and when to ask current from the electric motor and "steal" torque from the powertrain.
On when, the obvious time is when engine braking to slow down, but can also decide to steal some torque at stabilized speed, asking the ICE to provide a little bit more torque in this condition is almost unnoticeable (as you don't feel your alternator charging). Even without the regenerating braking the system basically store and exchange torque from stabilize speed situation to accelerating situation, and this has a huge fuel economy and performance gain.

Theoretically could also charge when idling at a red light but those system also do start&stop obviously, so in practice not really the main charge time.

Au contraire, the Toyo Open Country A/T IIIs on my GX perform flawlessly in rain.

Of course, one person's anecdotal opinion and experience does not represent the whole (and that goes for both of us). But on the whole, 460 owners who run the Toyos are happy with them, rain performance included. Curious what size and load range yours are, and what pressure you run them at and what other variables may be at play.

But on the whole, 460 owners who run the Toyos are happy with them, rain performance included. Curious what size and load range yours are, and what pressure you run them at and what other variables may be at play.

That’s been my experience too, I ran through 2 sets on my old Tundra and now have them on my GX, no complaints about rain performance.

To me the Sequoia is the best new LandCruiser replacement for the US. Tows 9k, rear diff lock, 3rd row, 20+ mpg. Of course a little more money but for $65K, you can get a lot more value than the 4 pistons and $60k cloth seats.

And if they are going to slap I-Force badges on everything, why not? Of course that's a used model down the line for me.

The 1958 has poor clearance from its 245/70R18 tires. Put 265/70r18s on it and jt will sit about 1.1" higher

The lower price tag, a new model, a hybrid...people are going to be considering this truck that never would have considered a land cruiser before. And a lot of new vehicles these days cost $50K+. Who cares though. If you don't want to buy it, don't buy it.
