I'm confused, so the sound level was unchanged after installing the sound deadener?
Yep. The seats apparently absorbed a lot of noise. The deadener just compensated for the seat removal.

At this point with all the mods, tires, roof rack etc. the noise level is around 72 db with the resonator cut off and straight piped.

The next day the wind had died down a bit but was still annoying and the temps had dipped to near freezing overnight, the weather had certainly changed!

We passed through the Mojave whoops (long section of whoop te doos) and down to Soda Lake, we were a bit concerned not knowing what the previous weeks weather had been and was unsure of the lake condition. We spaced out as not to get two trucks stuck at the same time. It turned out the lake bed was good and dry and had no issues. On the west, southwest side of the lake the wind had really blown the sand around and following the two track was difficult. Having the GPS tracks and driving IFR was super useful.

We meandered down the Mojave River bed and crossed the deep end on the trail and exited the Mojave Road near Rasor Rd onto the 15 freeway.

We were fortunate when our club did Mojave Road. One of our members is also in a gemology club and knows all that area very well, so since we all have HAM radios (for safety and to inform the rest of the club if a potty break is needed) he gave us a ton of little tidbits of info as we rolled along. It was great!

At the beginning of this thread you had an ironman bumper and different color SCS wheels. Did you buy a different GX and start over?
Nope, replaced the Ironman with a Victory and I have the same SCS wheels.

That's nice to have someone on the trip that knows the geology.

Finally the good word from Nitro Gear!! I paid for my gears and lockers today! Pulling my diffs this coming weekend and dropping them off on Monday the 21st.

This past trip with the factory gears really showed the need. 4-5 gear for most of the 3000 mile drive. The only time I got into 6th was down hill or with the wind. The wind the end of February was significant and I was guzzling fuel!

To refresh 4:88 R&P ARB lockers front and rear.

You'll love it!! Especially on trails.

Yep! Compression braking is nowhere near where is should be in the current configuration.

Sad part is you can't drive it around for a couple weeks. :(

I’ll have it rolling next Friday or Saturday. But yes the first 500 miles is painfully slow.

That's the one thing I REALLY hate on all the rigs I've regeard and added lockers on, it's that 500 miles at 55 mph wear-in period.

Once I have them back I’m on a serious time crunch to get the 500 miles done and scout an area for my first private client class April 15. 5 of those days I’ll be in MX enjoying the sun.

Diffs are back in and now the slow process of breaking them in. No more than 10-15 miles in one continuous drive then let them cool off for an hour. This is the process for the first 100 miles. The next 400 miles no heavy load, no highway speeds, varied speeds. I plan on taking the backroads to work next week to get the 500 miles knocked out.

Well the song is appropriate! Took me and extra 20 minutes today on the backroads.

With where you live, I would imagine you have awesome views of mountains and trees going the back route!

Made it out to Walker Valley OHV area last weekend. Lots of testing of gear. Thursday I completed my gear break in of 500 miles. Friday I drained and filled the diffs and while I was there changed the engine oil. Saturday was local cars and coffee and Sunday was trail run day at Walker Valley.

Happy to report with 34" tires @ 70 mph the truck runs well @2000 rpm. No transmission hunting and much better drivability. On the trail in low range I now have great compression braking, no need to keep tapping the brakes. Throttle input is much more controlled with less input to move the truck.

The second item up for testing was the MORRFlate multi tire deflator/inflator. It's much faster conducting both tasks I just need to get better at deployment and stowing of the hose. Bonus with the 1 liter of air in the ARB air tank stowed up from running the lockers inflation times are much quicker. This is really going to be useful with large groups with folks that don't have compressors.
