I’ve been so happy with the 285/75-17 tire size. It’s listed as a 34.7 but it is a full 33.5” on the truck. Not sure what 17s you can get but this size is perfect.

As you know, finding the perfect tire is not easy these days. Back in the day it was easy but not the case with 16” wheels. Bit more with a 17” and even a 15” although 15” won’t work on this build.

It makes selecting wheels and tires difficult but we have discussed a few options.

Cheers

My $0.02....timeless and yet, modern. 👍🤘🤣

Now back to regular scheduled programming.

I had already purchased all the new OEM parts available to construct a FZJ105 from scratch in the US. Including factory 16” steel wheels. We are just going to run that axle setup (5 lug etc) under this truck so we are initially going to try the factory 105 series steel wheels. If they look good then that’s what we are using. If they look “eh” then we will save them for the 105 project. I’m just helping out with storage issues by using some stuff I already had in possession.

Wait wait wait..... Hold the phone.... Let me get this straight.... So the stable is to include the 80 (of course, cause 🐐), this 79 project and now a 105 project toooo? I feel like I have been hacked! That combo is what I always dream of owning one day. I haven't decided on 47 or 79, but that's hearsay. Okay, I have hijacked your thread enough, just thought that was funny. Continue on with all of the awesomeness!

Yea. I have a couple of small projects going in the 40/45 section. And a 200.

So they are a bit bigger than the 255/85R16 Yoko's? I'm a little over 1/2 worn and already looking lol. Problem is I bet I can't mount those on factory OEM 16's due to width.
The 285/75-16 and 255/85-16 Yokos I have are same height 285 just wider

Here is a 255 on stock 70-series 16” wheels, 6.5” or 7” wide iirc, this a Toyo.

Here is a 255 on a SCS 16” wheel, 8.5” wide iirc. Tire is a Cooper.

Building the new FTE has begun.

Fresh out of the box.

As usual, the Toyota short block was lacking in a good paint job. The paint on it was adhered well but lots of shadowing. So we cleaned it up, taped it off, scuffed and painted.

Letting it cure overnight and assembly begins tomorrow.

I have been lurking in this section since I was able to work on Kaderabek’s HZJ73 and I am pretty disappointed in the quality of 70 series builds. This section reminds me of he Suzuki guys back in the Pirate4x4 days.

I don’t think this build will get 10% of the appreciation it deserves because it seems like the bar is pretty low for 70 builds.

This post led me to spending 10 minutes reading 14 year old Suzuki samurai threads on pirate. I will never get that time back why have you done this to me

This build is going to be badass. I’d give a nut for one of these trucks.

all jokes aside.... the 70 series section used to have about 20 posts a week. -- there was little activity, mainly I would associate with the inability to get into the US. Now the site is very active and every day more users, more buyers, more imported, and more builds are happening. Personally, I am dropping an LS in a 73 series -- and I don't know of another one out there that has done it. I converted a carb'd 1fz to a fuel injected 1fz in a 75 series and documented it well here. There are so many people doing crazy things (this thread is one of them) and being the groundbreakers..... yes today they won't get the credit they deserve, but 10 years ago the 80 section was the same way. I recall referring to 10 year old toolsrus threads in the 80 series section and quoting them as gospel.... that is what this thread will be someday down the road.

Hey I got two other massive build threads here in the 70 section. One is still on going.
