I really appreciate all the feedback. I was not at all worried about rust and corrosion when I had purchased my 2010 Acura MDX in 2012, and didn't know back then how much that really contributes to the longevity of a car. The rust issues with Tacoma that is in news, everywhere, had got me little pessimistic and therefore wanted to get this seen by experienced folks like you. I know those are two different models by design but just a concerned buyer who is purchasing a real expensive truck by my standards. Thank you all.

This video on land cruiser shows (6:16) a number on differential as well. So, I think that should be ok.
I will ask the dealer about the skid plate. Most likely, it was removed to take the pics. However, as novice as I have already sounded, I have no idea on where the KBV valve resides, and where few of the folks have spotted the driver shaft to be scuffed.

skid plate was removed by a grease monkey to change the oil filter. If you had rust this forum would’ve already pounced.

KDSS (Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) valve is on the diver side by the forward door near the frame and beneath a plate.

The valve screws tend to get rusted.

Just remembered.. have a look at the KDSS valve body. If that is bad at all, consider passing. That is one area that rusts quicker than most, and can prove very expensive/difficult to sort out.

Agree. If you're looking at undercarriage for rust, check the KDSS valve and screws.

To get a good look at the KDSS valve the black cover in the above photo should be removed. Easy job, 3x 12mm bolts. Then post a clear picture of what it looks like. A little surface rust as in that picture isn't a concern.. if the shutter valve screws are badly corroded or the surface rusted face above has more severe rust, that can be a problem later on.

Whatever landcruiser you buy, you should find some "LPS3" and apply it to that valve after scrubbing as much of the rust off as you can. Then redo this once per year. That will keep the corrosion at bay and valve operable for future suspension work.

IH8MUD experts, me again... instead of raising a new thread, I thought of using this one as it is for the exact same purpose. So, my brother is also shopping for a 2017 land cruiser in New York region and wanted me to check with y’all if the below under carriage situation is ok? Or, does it look at an advanced rate of deterioration? He too wants to keep this vehicle over the long haul. I have already mentioned him to also check the KDSS valve and screw.

Looks great for a NY region vehicle.

The 2 bolts being switched on the driver side skid plate are pinging my OCD senses though.. (seriously it's not a big problem)

Sold by a dealer? Ask them to verify the cam adjustment bolts aren’t seized. If they are, ask them to replace LCAs.

If it's truly a northeast vehicle it should be rusted out and unsellable already !
