Giardia might not kill ya, but you might wish it had if it hits you bad enough. :skull:

Last weekend's backpacking trip I didn't even use my filter. I'm still alive.

Incubation period on giardia is one to three weeks. So if you were exposed last weekend you shouldn't be manifesting any symptoms yet. If you're really lucky you can get the full experience going right in the middle of the trip...

Like my son @justintpryor , I'm scaling back on water I'm bringing and will be filtering more for my wife and I.

Let's get this party started already! Can't wait until Saturday!

Yes - me, too!! That, and getting the Baofeng's programmed for the non-2m (and 2m) repeaters!

Just the reactions I expected.

Okay, one more total noob question. Should I bring wood? Are their places to have campfires? Or is it all cook stoves?

There is so much downed wood from last winter it's not even funny! You may have to travel a bit away from the established camps, though.

I don't think fire restrictions are in effect yet, either.

Do not bring wood. Fire restrictions are in place and you can only use Propane/gas to cook using your camp stove. Yes, you have to have a fire permit for that as well. We will be having a camp fire in the Springs only. Please, no other fires without the permission of the care takers Mark and Maria.

Fire restrictions are in effect and you need the camp fire permit even for your propane/gas stoves!

Don't worry about the exit via Cadillac. The issue is under control and we will be fine. They are pushing that out to keep as many rigs off that side as possible as there is an event up there this weekend.

The water is not going to be an issue and the mud problems has been taken care off. That being said the issue is the deep area that is (as coming from Tahoma) just after Miller Creek and the small section that goes up in the the woods to the left. It's that area that has 3 routes. You will want to take the one to the far left.

As with any water and mud you may encounter, go slow, don't plow it up by spinning your tires!!!! Either get a tug, our use the winch. That's why we have them. Don't be "that guy" that only worries about how you are going to get through and make it that much more difficult for the next!

I just checked with the Eldorado National Forest and there are currently no campfire restrictions. But, you do need a permit to have a campfire, or even operate a gas stove for that matter. I seem to recall that it's been discussed on this thread previously, but if you don't have your permit go here Prevent Wildfire - California Campfire Permit Online and get your permit online. I always save mine to my phone.

So, bring wood if you'd like to as I'm sure there are fire rings at Buck and in the Springs. If you're truck is like mine, however, you won't have room for any! With the heavy winter there may be a good amount of downed wood that can be picked up on the trail, but often busy routes are pretty picked over.

@Bad Coco , just to clarify, the Springs are private property and we will certainly abide by the owners wishes! It is my understanding that Buck Island is Eldorado National Forest territory, and the nice lady in Placerville just told me there were no restrictions. So, please confirm/deny that.

I know for Eldorado County, fire restrictions began in June. I find hard to believe that is not the case there. Slightly different rules for hosted campgrounds

Thanks for the info. The reason I was asking is that I am tight on room and I didn't want to bring wood unless I can use it. But I was hoping to grill some steaks and some burgers. But I can live with the stove.

Yes. Good output. The lighter thingie is annoying hard to turn, I hope it gets easier with some use.

I've been on a Lodge buying spree lately.

Is that grill thing from Lodge? I tried to find it online but couldn't.
