Guess he's not from norcal. Disregard my earlier attempt to defend this guy.

OK I am going to put what has happened aside and give some constructive advice. We all know what being 15 was like, lets stop the flaming.

So @Andrew Ling here is my thoughts on what you should focus on.

Build toward a goal, get a picture of someone else's rig that you like and make it your goal to make yours something like that. Over time you will get there

AVOID spending what little money you save on decals, lights, and other "fast and furious" non performance adding items.

DO spend money on maintenance your truck with 80K miles on it is UNHEARD OF, you have a GOLD BAR. Dont put a bunch of fake go fast parts and stickers all over it.

You have one of THE BEST off road expedition vehicles EVER brought to the USA. AND YOU HAVE LOCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG PEOPLE WOULD PAY OUT THEIR BUTTS FOR THIS TRUCK. My suggestion is to STOP adding tinsel (showy) parts to your truck and focus on saving for a lift, tires bumpers ect. Like I said I know that being 15 this will rip you apart from the inside because your friends have faster, "better" and more flashy cars. BUT I guarantee you that all of your friends "better cars" will be trashed, wrecked or sold for half of what they are worth by the time you are done with high school. I saw this, I lived this, I envied them, I wanted my car to be fast, I wanted it to have the bling. I modified my honda, subtly and tastefully I loved it, still think today that I did a tasteful job on it. However when I went to sell it I got half what it would have gotten if it was unmodified.

What do you want to do with your truck? Its not a drag racer so dont decal it up. Extra turn signal lights and vehicle angle gizmos are a waste of money and give the truck credentials it doesn't deserve. If you focus on keeping it clean clean you will attract girls faster and ultimately be ensuring the truck value is preserved. Doesn't seem like it matters at 15 I know, but you will find out that it does way sooner than you know.

Dude wtf is that? Did you read my post?!?
He is 15 years old spoild brat don't know nothing what you just post Men . I feel so sorry for that Land Cruiser that serve him as his master . I saw that cruiser before I think he live somewhere in my neighborhood .

Hey wait a minute, in his defense, between his post #1 and #24, it all make sense. Perhaps he was just being honest.

For anyone coming in late, the word "******" is now changed to "guy" in post #1

Great thread. I've been trying to figure out why the 80 had a fiberglass fender.

I'm looking forward to the build, hopefully starting with taking the damage multiplier off and removing some of the cheap trinkety doo-dads. That truck has a lot of potential. What does the damage look like?

Andrew:

Welcome to the forum!

You have acquired a very nice truck with a lot of options and really low mileage! You are very fortunate! In order to get the most out of your truck, learn to do your OWN wrenching. You will learn the most that way and you will EARN the respect of others. This will allow you to speak with confidence and knowledge that you are willing to give it what it needs.

In many folks' eyes, paying someone else to build your truck for you is not building it yourself. I have not been fortunate enough to have that happen for me or our 15 YO son.

Think about each of your additions and make the truck what YOU want it to be. LISTEN to the other folks' advice, but in the end, you have the choice to take their advice or not.

Determine YOUR use for the truck and focus your build that direction. If you want to compete with the "ricers" then look into the 2X turbo build that @scottryana is building and follow his lead. If you want to build a serious off-road crawler, look at the build by @jcardona1 . Both have serious detail and you just might learn something.

If this was your folks' truck, you probably already know the vehicle maintenance history. If it hasn't been done, generate a log book (or excel file) that allows you to record and keep track of the maintenance that has been done to the truck and so you can track issues, maintenance schedules, and issues that come up.

Get a Factory Service Manual (FSM) and read it in order to determine the proper names for parts and descriptions. The fenders on these are made of steel. The fender FLARES are made of plastic or fiberglass, depending on the year.

And the people here will not hesitate to flame you for posting derogatory or ignorant comments. We would like to all be professional, but we get carried away sometimes. We don't want this site to become a bunch of crap flame-posting like what Pirate amounts to, so keep tech - tech, and keep chat - chat.

Welcome and the official 'Mud salute: :flipoff2: (even though it is probably inappropriate, it's not like you haven't seen it before.)

Ok thanks! The thing is im kind of on a budget and this is like a father and son project :/

Better reason to maintain the truck until you can afford to do what you want. Spending $15 on extra flashers or lights is a waste, when you should be saving that 15 bucks for a lift or something. You don't just get to $1,000 in one day, it takes days of saving $15 here $10 there then it adds up.

Yea do u think i should start with the cdl switch first? The 7 pin mod seems kind of difficult.

7 pin mod is very very easy. I just cut the wire I didn't pull the little connector out.. Very easy mod perhaps one of the easiest.. Follow the guide on Slee Offroads site and you can't go wrong.
