Backs are bled, just finished the passenger side, other than doing final torque on caliper bolts. Will do drivers side tomorrow.

I ended up resorting to using the floor jack on the end of a breaker bar to break the caliper bolts loose. It's not something I like doing or am comfortable doing, it's just the only option given the situation. Beyond that, everything went well.

I also had to be honest with myself and I have not done rotors in a very very long time. Pretty sure the only other truck I remember doing rotors on was my first truck. My 85 5 lug.
 
Assuming I still work at the same place come bonus time I am planning on picking up something like a used stick shift Honda Fit to start commuting with so I can officially start making the GX more of a trail rig.

Once purchased it should lower my expenses.

Also nice to have a s*** box I can run errands with.

Having a daily driver is a game changer, mine just died and while using the GX more expedient some needed maintenance, I am on the hunt for something new.

Totally. Previously my 4wds were on their last legs, so had one 5 lug pickup or another. My shop chief in the Air Force called me a redneck, for having 2 pickups, even though I listen to Depeche Mode. 😆
 
Brake pads are bedded in and I am very very happy with the feel and over all stopping power. Will have the rears on in a few weeks and will probably re-bed everything

Use anti-seize liberally on that hardware and it should be easier the next time. Brake stuff gets hot and hot stuff likes to seize. I have a piece of pipe I use vs using a jack for torque on the breaker bar. Both are dangerous...one just a bit less so.

My front caliper bolts were stuck like this - they weren't breaking loose with my buddy's air impact wrench but I got them off by basically bench pressing a giant breaker bar...was not my favorite activity in the world
 
Yep, totally. The other option would have been lowering the truck on the breaker bar. I did that with the suspension. Again, only a last resort.

Anyone have recommendations for tires for commuting from the Longmont area up to Cheyenne on I-25? I have been looking at studded Hakkipilettas as I was warned it could get nasty. I also want to do some snow wheeling with them unless those are mutually exclusive applications.

I try not to make assumptions when I move since it only hurts me.

I am also probably going to use my oem alloys as 275/70R18 is a nice size.
 
September pre-move update:
GX is at dealership getting a new radiator and plugs.

I have EBC green stuff pads on all 4 corners, love them, and don't mind the noise.

The brakes, dampers and tires are definitely a synergistic package on the road. Those wider revos and 5100s really help translate the extra braking performance into something more than just quicker lockup and ABS actuation.

My LT285/70R17 Revos are about 2/3rds worn. I have rotated every 5-8k and they are at about 25k miles. I am hard on my tires so most people would get better life. The important thing is they are still relatively quiet and smooth on good concrete but can be a little nasty on rough interstate (I 76 southbound from Ogalala to Denver). Available traction is at least 80-90% of new. Like my previous Dueler ATs they provide a very consistent grip throughout their life.

If you let pressure drop enough they will hydroplane on the road in puddles deeped that about half an inch. I noticed it starts around 29-30 psi and is kind of expected, honestly, given the design of the tire and weight of the vehicle. We can get some real deluge, and I usually take advantage of the puddles to clear my skids.

Without a doubt the Revo is the best all terrain tire i have ever used for fuel economy, mechanical grip front to back and side to side, ride quality(floaty)and braking performance.

They do acceptable on refreeze and hard pack snow and we're pretty awesome in our 14" snow storm 9 months ago.

If you aren't doing really hardcore trails and do a lot of commuting, I think they are a great tire. While obviously a pretty awful tire for mud, with Atrac and momentum, I have not been left stranded when I find myself in over my head, but I don't approach things with the confidence I could with my MTRs.
 
Truck is back from service. $21xx for:
Radiator and cap generic(OEM is on backorder)
New plugs
Chassis lube and torque
New wipers all the way around

Shouldn't need to take it in for Dealer Service for probably 30-40k.
 
Will be hoping to have a BMC done in the next month in prep for 34-35s.

I am also going to plan on putting in larger bumpstops, TEQ customs sells some larger ones.

My Revos are getting into the last 1/4 of their life and honestly they have been pretty damn good. They didn't last the full miles but considering how I have used them, I am not upset about it. They did fine aired down to 20 PSI for some light snow wheeling in the mountains.

I will have to get something different, regardless, as Bridgestone doesn't make Revo 3s or Ascents(Revo 4) in the narrower 34-35" tires. I have no need for a tire wider that what I have now. It would just hurt performance for my application.

Short list is the Toyo AT3, Falken AT4W and BFG AT KO3s. All available in a 35x11.5 or similar size. I am also considering the Mickey Thompson in a 255x85R17. But would prefer to get a new tire to hopefully be able to buy replacement tires if the need arises.

Since you're in Colorado, you might want to check out The TFL Offroad tire comparison from over the weekend. They didn't test the Toyos but I was pretty surprised to see how bad the Falkens were in the snow.

 
Should I drive to Golden for work from Slee or goto a shop in Loveland or Fort Collins, for the BMC.
