2013 LC200 (American) whirring noise behind the dash on cold start (1 Viewer)

I’ll post again here if I hear it again this winter. This and my unknown dash/frame noise drive me nuts ! Purchased a chassisear to see if I can figure out the frame/suspension noise.

I think it has to do with the fridge. On my trip to Sedona, I was using the fridge basically all the time and the sound began. I haven’t used it in a month and the no sound in a month.
Dealer couldn’t figure it out.

That’s interesting my dash noise only shows up in the winter when the fridge box gets no use. However I believe it’s all connected to the a/c system so who knows what’s happening behind the dash. At least your dealer could replicate it. I’m 0/100 when taking in my vehicle for anything ; they can never replicate. Part of me thinks because they see so few of these the my simply can’t or don’t know how to work on them.

Same problem in my 2013... searching for answers.

Try the pulling-fuses route.

I'm not willing to give up on this being a stereo/nav cooling fan issue just yet.

This picture shows the holes for the cooling fan on the side of the unit.

+1 for this same issue. Made similar attempts to isolate it but can’t figure it out. I may give the noise a name...

Is there any sort of number of vehicles or % it takes to take something back to Toyota as a legitimate failure across a vehicle line? They only sold 3,082 of the 2013 in the USA from what I can tell.

Also a 2013. Now with cold Minnesota here it starts the noise again. Anytime it sits in the outdoor parking ramp and temps are <10f its present on startup. Once the car warms up it stops (5-7 minutes of driving).
Frustrating curious if anyone has had any success isolating it. Odd that its so temperature specific too

I swear I think I figured it out and I feel like an idiot. I think it’s the drivers side seat fan and it sounds like it’s in the dash because it gets louder when I lean forward to hear it better, pulling my back away from the seat which was muffling the sound, which seems to be reflecting off the windshield/dash.

hamsters on their wheel...

I’m pretty sure it’s not the seat fan in my vehicle. It’s a much different pitch and frequency than what I hear in the summer. I bought a set of cat ears for a different issue (another thread in this forum) and may try them if this starts up again.

Same issue here on a 2013. It only happens when it’s really cold and lasts for 5 minutes or so. Definitely sounds like it’s in the CD player or behind it. If anyone comes up with anything I would like to know.

Is there any way to get Toyota’s attention when it appears this is likely not a single vehicles issue?

It isn’t a safety issue, won’t leave you stranded, and doesn’t impact the operation of the vehicle in any meaningful way. They don’t care.

My 2013 LC also does this. This is my third winter with the CD player area noise. It can be surprisingly loud until everything warms up.

here is mine... not sure what is going on. Is this the same noise you all are experiencing?

It seems to be much louder behind the CD slot then the nav screen. Could be due to the opening letting sound leak out?

Mine is the same, but more rhythmic. I haven’t heard it in months though

I’m still thinking loose cooling fans in the nav unit, which is what the CD/DVD player is a part of.

It’s not horribly difficult to remove the surrounding trim and give it a test with a lot more access for narrowing this down. Mine isn’t making the noise or I’d do it.

I have this same issue on my 2014 LX. I just bought it a few weeks ago. It was a Texas truck before I brought it to Colorado so it may not have even happened before I got it.

2010 here. So far has happened three times, starting about a week ago and Only when it is below 20 degrees. This week has been warm so it has not been happening preventing me from chasing it. Mine is much more whiny than the other videos posted, but similar enough that I believe it's the same.
