You boys camping better bring your long undies... It is gonna be a cold/extra windy one up on the bald. Supposed to be down in the 20's down here, I imagine at 5-6k you'll be looking at single digits and possible snow... Stay warm, we'll see you on Saturday morning!

It won't be I'm the single digits due to wind and dew points but around 20 is a safe bet for Friday night.

This website run by a professor at App. State does the best with the micro climates found in western NC. This is his forecast for Beech mountain which will have a similar temperature profile to Black Balsam though the snow chances will be less at black balsam due to its further distance from the favored upslope snow regions along the TN/NC border

Good luck gents

I'm still in. I'm not letting temp hinder me from being out there. I've got the gear so no issue here. Kids are not coming until sat. I'll be meeting them at pisgah. Going to camp sat night.

Oh boy!! bring your sleds and snowshoes :hillbilly:

Got some wood. Mine is dry so if someone has some green wood bring a few sticks.

But you are saying there is a chance?

Woot woot...last call for BB...come out tomorrow and join us for a great ride up the BRP with lunch at the Pisgah Inn. Meet us at either BB or the Inn, the wife and I will be heading up in the morning and driving up to the bald, I believe JP is going to meet us at the Inn so there should be someone at either spot.

Have fun, we just got back home from our trip. Looked at weather and knowing how it is out there at night and knowing we have camped several nights over the last week at 40 and 30 ish, we decided to trek from Nashville today home. 30 is and raining with coyotes around Mammoth Cave NP campground was a little rough. Looking forward to the pictures hope no one gets frostbite.

So what happened?

Heading home now. Friday night was brutal cold. Last night was not near as cold but we might as well had been in the jet stream.

So what happened?

We were in the parking lot around 9:45, waited till about 10:15, drove up to the inn where we had phone service. Got a hold of Marshall and he was headed to Hendersonville, he never responded if you guys were headed down or not, so at 11:30 we headed down the parkway.

Looks and sounds like camping was brutal up there as always. Hate we couldn't meet up, but glad I didn't try and stick out another night.
