Yeah we will probably coming up Saturday morning also.

The inn is filing for a court injunction so they can open back up.

Ok, here is the back up plan...Gabe's parents have a chunk of land off the Eastatoe river, it should be big enough to hold a good group of campers. Gabe will post up an address and directions to get there. It'll be a little further to drive to get to BRP but it's a free place to stay. Also if the Inn is still closed plan on packing a lunch, we may just find a good pull over to eat at, unless Jay or Todd know of a good place to eat that we could get off and on the parkway easily.

The Inn will be open... They reached some sort of agreement with the NPS. We will have to exit the parkway to go to the interstate and back on to the parkway east of Asheville if planning to go to Mitchell as we have in the past, but it won't be too much of a hassle I don't think...

Well it looks like the bums came to an agreement finally. Black balsam here we come!

I was up in the Smoky Mtn. National Park this past weekend and they had all of the trails blocked off...All of the overlooks were open, but if it had a trail, it was barricaded. People were still hiking, though, they would park across the street or where ever they could find.
Clingmans Dome was closed, and I would have been upset, except there was a big cloud over the whole top.
The color was awesome over 5000 ft., not so much in Cherokee or Gatlinburg, though.
Funny thing was we passed 6 forest service vehicles.

I plan on going up late Friday night to balsam. I think Marshall plans on going up as well. We probably need to be at mt pisgah inn by 10:30. Last time i went that place had a crowd waiting for them to open. After that whoever wants to go up the parkway can and those who want to head back to balsam do the same.

A few ways to get up there...if you are coming from the Greenville area you can take 276 and once you hit brevard you can either go left or right, your choice really. If you go right you will take 276 up to the blue ridge parkway and go left on the parkway, you're gonna go about 6 miles and Black balsam knob rd will be on your right, follow that in past the gate until you reach the campsite. If you choose to go left in brevard and follow 64 into Rosman. This also applies to folks coming out of Clemson/pickens area, take 178 to Rosman, you will take a left at the dead end onto 64, Rosman high school will be in front of you. About a 1/2 mile down 215 will be on your right, follow 215 for about 17 miles and then exit onto the parkway, you will go right on the parkway(the exits are kinda screwy so I don't know how you exit onto the parkway) so pay attention to get you going east. Black balsam knob rd will be on your left about 3 miles down.

If I've left anything out chime in and let us know.

Chuck

Lunch starts at 11:30

Plans have changed and I won't be able to make it this year as hoped. Have fun! The 10-day forecast looks very fall-like and to be perfect campfire weather.

I plan on bringing my telescope up to see the stars. Maybe we can find that nudist colony.....

Who has the club canopy? Would be a good trip to use it on.

You're a funny guy...now if someone wants to bring a parachute then that's a different story.

Yeah the canopy up there would be an experience. We used to have a smaller club canopy. They took it to Cullowhee. In the morning they found it down the mountain in some trees in several pieces. Probably not a good idea.
