Apparently there are folks who are parking illegally across from the inn (yesterday) and walking through the NPS barricade to have lunch at the inn. I think that is kick ass, these fools are being obtuse on purpose, never before in gov't shutdowns have they closed open air facilities or privately operated businesses. High class is all I have to say...
If you only knew the temptation in my heart i had last night to ride up and drag those rangers cars away.
I think they were looking for a trip that weekend.

Exactly....the gov't is side stepping the issue so bad it's rediculous, they are goin to back pay gov't employees so that's how they have these folks working. So to them it doesn't matter how long the gov't is shut down for they can have them work for free at the moment and them pay them when things open back up in 6 months.

Don't worry negative nancy we are currently working on a back up plan for camping if the balsam is still closed by then.

Also FYI the BRP is closed from 191 (brevard rd in Asheville to Hwy 25 aka Hendersonville rd) due to bridge repair over I-26. So if we do the Pisgah to Mitchell thing, we'll have to take a slight detour, and I spoke to one of the main distributors who works closely with the Pisgah Inn, and the owner is seeking a court injunction against the NPS which would allow him to remain open until at least the hearing, so he may open again soon. The park rangers told him they would stand guard until the chief ranger was assured 100% that he wouldn't open the Inn in defiance of the parks mandate.
