2008 Elections: nominations here!

The elections will be held later this month, I believe the correct date is December 18th. Alan is that correct?

Also, for those chapters out there that haven't turned in your CGS forms, please do ASAP.

Thanks,
Art

If we have a list of the positions and nominees that can be sent in an email to the Bodrep mailing list it may allow some to vote that may not get to make the call. I am one of them that will be traveling but should have 1 or 2 folks on the call.

To all those that were nominated, THANK YOU very much for your time and efforts. To all the BOD Reps, Thank YOU for taking the time to be part of the organization. Without our member participation, we wouldn't have what we have now, and what we will have in the future.

I presume there will be a new election to fill the secretary's spot? Or will that be an appointment by our new president?

My understanding from the Conf call last night is that it is being appointed.

I'm sure that Nick or Jeff will chime in. The bylaws indicate that the position will be filled by an election of the BOD:

In the event of a vacancy in any other office, an election by the Board of Directors shall be called to elect a successor. The nomination and notification procedures for scheduled elections shall be followed.

So who was appointed? Got a name?

Wow? Seriously? Is this "interim" until such time that the BOD has a chance to fill the position properly, in accordance with the Bylaws?

Why didn't Herb just run for the office? As the only nominee, his chances would have been pretty good.

Probably because the office of Secretary wasn't up for election this year, and Art didn't step down prior to nominations closing for MSVP.

At the time that nominations closed for MSVP, it wasn't certain that Art would get it.

I asked that specific question last month, and was told:

Art took over as MSVP for the remainder of that term while also fulfilling his secretary position, and is running again for MSVP. If he wins MSVP we will have to have a special election for secretary. If he does not win, I think he said last night he would continue as secretary. Am I remembering everything correctly??

that, and nobody nominated anyone else for secretary. i think that is one of those posititions you kinda need someone to voulunteer for, rather than thrusting it upon them...

Justin

Secretary wasn't up for elections, per the bylaws, and the original post. So why would someone volunteer for a position that wasn't open?

Thanks Ross!
You make a very good point. If Jeff doesn't chime in I promise I will point out the bylaws requirement at the special budget meeting Jeff has called for January 8th. My understanding from the call last night was that Jeff is talking to Herb. I understood that Herb would serve as an interim Secretary.

Of course, our first (and most important) task is the budget. If Herb serves through next year that's okay. If someone wants to fill the job, we can open and close nominations at one meeting, then vote the next. That's how the rules are set up. Are you interested or know someone that is?
Thanks in advance,

Ross,
my bad. Guess I wasn't quite as up on that one, I had gathered from some of the discussion, that we needed somebody nominated, but that nobody had been. I guess I missed the finer points of just exactly what was happening. Oooooppppssss. : hehehe
I realize now that the discussion was to fill the roll should Art get msvp. Oh well, guess it's still true that nobody got nominated though, even if the reason is slightly different than I had originally thought!!! ;)
