2008 Elections: nominations here!

I hereby decline nomination for AVP. This should reduce the muddy waters.

I still don't see any nominations for Secretary to backfill Art's role - we have a little over 24 hours to get that nomination or else have him continue doing a dual role with only one vote until we have a special election for Secretary.

Happy cruisin'!

I agree, nice job Jeff, if we have someone capable and willing ( and Nick has done an excellent job and is more than qualified professionally) we should focus on getting someone in at the Secretary' position and a new Web Master.

My thought was to bring a young web master up from the club level and be there for support so the club doesn't need to work with a different site and can build on momentum gained from getting a 2009 web site at 15 hours per month. Thought it would take a year to get our site self-sustaining and with my contract running out March 31st; an accurate estimate.

I would rather spend my time working with Chris and our other highly talented volunteers and contractors to garner reciprical-marketing agreements with Outside Magazine, REI and others to bring in a new membership base generating revenues along with alternative sources of advertising on TLCA.ORG. Chris's first Adsense banner started flying today and we have a 3 banner campaign being fine-tuned. Google is easy money.

This would create a time of growth in the club when most would want to "cut" or look for ways to penny pinch. But this would take some help from guys at the chapter level looking to step up and help. Our Secretary and Web Master's job are important positions.

Especially in today's e-society.

Mark,
No disrespect intended. Jeff and Justin are long term TLCA members, both have shown and described a long term relationship with Toyota and what they would do as President. I just dont know anything about you. Nick brought you in to be web master and I knew nothing about you then. I dont even know what kind of Toyota you drive or how long you have been with the TLCA. Have you been to any of the TLCA sanctioned events?

Again, no dis-respect and I am not throwing stones, but I dont know anything about you other than you are a great web master. I know alot about Jeff and Justin because they have been around a long time. I know enough about them to say they both are qualified candidates.

Can you tell us some more about yourself?

Those that know me and have read my posts over the years, listened to my rants around the campfire and at meetings know that my mantra is about growing the top line. I agree with Mark 100% that we have the opportunity for growth, and not cutting below the line.

I believe in growth from quality.

Quantity is hollow without quality.

The top line grows from quality. We have quality people in our organization, and quality product. Build on that and we'll be fine. Ignore the quality and focus on quantity and we'll fall flat and fail.

Now is our time to grow into the 21st century, even as we are a car club that promotes antique vehicles. Let's build a car club that is embraces the new while preserving the old, and remain vigilant about our bottom line while we work to build our top line.

Rising Sun is a paradigm that scales well to TLCA. Embrace new members whether runner, Lexus, FJC, Taco, or LC. The paradigm is about quality people and quality events. Our shared enthusiasm of our rigs brings us together, then we make great friendships via events. It's not about membership numbers: bring people together and our numbers grow without recruitment drives or anything like that. It's about quality.

Happy cruisin'!

Ken - Mark did take on the Secretary roll after Kowboy stepped down. As I recall it was for a short period of time. I think it was a work related issue that caused him to step back from that roll......

Hi Ken,

No worries. Totally understand where you are coming from. Before I get into the "About Me" I want to explain something..

At this point, after reading this thread and seeing Jeff's and Justin's devotion to run for President and to not muddy those waters; I would like to withdraw my nomination for that position and run for MSVP.

After talking with my wife and others, my marketing background, ideas, skill is what is needed in this club and fits my personality.

I have an 85 runner project that's going nowhere fast right now. I have owned a 73 FJ40, a Trekker, a 85 mini truck. Never been to a sanctioned event due to proximity and interest but feel an Alterna-Event at Snowshoe Mountain Resort would fit the bill for a lot of guys like me in this club that dig the Toyota, just do other things than wheel.

Helped reorganize the Mid-Ohio Land Cruiser Association into the Buckeye Birfield Syndicate and as Mike pointed out, sat as Secretary for a short time after Kowboy till my web development work took off and now maintain a comfortable client base that include The 12Voltguy, Trail-Gear, and TLCA (in the yota world) as a web developer/consultant.

Also sat on the BOD for the Formula Toys for a while.

Earned a A.A.S in Technical Communication with a minor in Marketing from The Columbus State Community College. I own a dowhnill mountain bike racing team called "Chainsmoke" and race competively myself and enjoy skiing and snowboarding when I don't race.

Aside from my client base I run a web site called The Snowshoe Gravity Project that is based on photo-journalism/journalism and video production covering extreme sports and activities at the mountain.

The Snowshoe Gravity Project

After the nominations officially close tonight (and I'm leaving for the mountain in about an hour from now) I will write up my proposal for MSVP.

I like Jeff, have talked with him on the phone about code and other geek stuff and will throw my support behind him as President.

What's important to me is..we have these motivated guys..let's make best use of them all and make a good fit so the club will move forward.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Mark. You seemed like a good guy I just didn't know anything about you. What you said in this post speaks a lot about your character. If you can make it to Cruise Moab this year, I'll have a glass of Crown Royal and a cigar for you. I you can't drive, let me know and we will ensure you a passenger seat throughout the event.

Am I reading right?
Mark Van Meter withdraws from Prez, throws in for MSVP?
Just want to make sure I'm clear on this...

You are reading this correctly. Yes, sir..

Ken, thanks man. I will take you up on that..

Mark, I think your decision to run for MSVP rather than President shows your level of commitment to TLCA. I respect your decision very much.

That said, you're going to resign your sweet webmaster gig in favor of being MSVP? Are you crazy man? (I went the other way, from MSVP --> webmaster). :D

How's the snow at Snowshoe? We're renting a house in Breckenridge for Thanksgiving, and the snow is sucking hard. Only 3% of the mountain is open.

Justin didn't agree with me and nominated himself and Jeff for C&MIR.

It should be noted that the idea behind nominating Jeff and myself for c/mir was that no others had been nominated, and when Jeff gets elected president, I could try to fulfill that roll.
Given that running for two positions seems to be creating so much controversy, I'd like you guys to suggest how to resolve this.
So, should I withdraw from one or both of these nominations, to make things simple? All suggestions welcome, and no stones thrown.

Also, to be clear: just wanting to hear what you guys have to say, to try and make this clear and above board.

I humbly accept the nomination to run for Admin VP.
I'm honored to be considered.
I've been with TLCA for several years and have from time to time served UC as it's BOD rep.
I've been a slave to my Cruiser for better than 2 decades and it has rewarded me
with many lasting and new found friends in the TLCA community.
I would be proud to try and give something back for the treasures it has given me.
I'm a practicing attorney of over 30 years with experience in both Corp and contract
drafting and litigation. Heck I've even sat in on a few old cat fights for TLCA in the past. ;)
If my services can help they are offered with enthusiasm.

I know nominations have closed now, but why do I keep seeing "secretary" as an open position? I thought Art took it over, and it's not up for election until next year. It wasn't posted at the beginning of this thread as being open.

Art took over as MSVP for the remainder of that term while also fulfilling his secretary position, and is running again for MSVP. If he wins MSVP we will have to have a special election for secretary. If he does not win, I think he said last night he would continue as secretary. Am I remembering everything correctly??

Here is an idea. Why not have the BOD come up with a set of questions for the candidates. Even if a position is unopposed. Have them answer the questions either on the BOD or this forum. Post them up in each thread. Then have people ask them questions below. That way BOD members can point their chapter members to them and have the chapters give feedback to their BOD on who they want. Plus your gonna get more people involved in this forum if you give them a reason to come and look.

And get Woody to do an announcement in the chapter sections pointing them here.

Put it all in one place. Get everyone to participate. Make it public and let the candidates respond to questions. We shouldn't have to dig to find out who we want as Officers.

So are y'all planning on doing something like this?

Why would the BOD come up with a list of questions? Thats like asking Obama or McCain to come up with their own debate questions. Anyone can come up with questions, why don't you take a crack at it.

I don't see the need to have woody make an announcement. Each Chapter has a member on the Bod, they can post up and have a discussion thread in their own section.

Justin, should you win the Presidency, I will be behind you 100%. I want you on our team whether I win President or you do: you have been a great TLCA booster, never have an excuse to not show up for meetings, you have represented your chapter to TLCA faithfully, have great ideas and great enthusiasm. You have shown a dedication to TLCA worthy of the Presidency, and would also make a fantastic C/MIR.

One way or the other, I would like you on our elected board.

Happy cruisin'!

Thanks, Jeff. Deal is, there seemed to be some consternation about the nominations, and I wanted to attempt to resolve it with some input from others. Turns out, the nominations closed with no worries, so, umm, no worries.
I look forward to being able to help, wherever the vote takes us. Building on Tony and Alan's successes will really take us forward to some of the best years we have experienced yet. And I think that's saying something, given those two previous leaders,
They gave us some great years, great innovations, and now we have the chance to fully grasp that and really push it to the next level. Stay tuned, folks, it's gonna be awesome!

Don't be changing stuff now, our club meeting was last night and we decided the club vote for the next BOD meeting. The entire club membership votes to decide how our delegate (ige) will cast the vote.
