I got a couple today. Interesting. I am just really anxious to see how people (the public, not cruiser owners) feel about it and how it rates. I am sort of hoping that it does well so that Toyota will make better ones that are more worth our (cruiser owners) time. By this i mean possible stronger drivetrain and maybe they'll listen to our suggestions, I dunno... aaaaand I am kind of hoping it doesn't so that I can get one for cheap and do what I want to it :grinpimp:

I know a lot of people hate it, but it's a lot better than what the competition has and it's a Toyota built in Japan!! People forget that Toyota P/U are just as awesome offroad and this is based on the hilux frame and running gears including rear locker and 6 speed. For those complaining about a lack of a removable top, remember this is the first generation many changes could occur in the upcoming future models due to consumer demands. Maybe a removable top? Solid front axle? You never know. We are just a bunch of bitter anti-IFS fans and tend to short change this model.

How is it better than what the competition is offering? The Nissan X has a 4.0L V6 as well that makes 265hp/285ft-lbs, a rear locker, 6-Speed manual, and 33's. Its also made in Japan and is ~$23k for the one with the rear locker.

True they are great, but they dont even come close to the offroad ability of a land cruiser (I own one right now and cant wait to trade up to an HDJ-81).

A Solid Axle will happen when pigs fly. Toyota has never changed the suspension from IFS to SA (or from SA to IFS for that matter) during mid-model. It has always been after a major re-design. More than likely things will just get worse (removal of the 6-Spd and rear-locker, just like w/teh 4-runner).

:D

Nissan sucks, Toyota Rocks!!

Marlin Crawler on that P/U or FJCruiser and it will rock like a cruiser.

Allright I'll give you the lack of SA, you are right when you say "when a pig flies"!! But you can always do a SA conversion.

Crap I'm away for a day and now my 55 isn't a "TRUE" land cruiser...

I see zero logic in your argument...but whatever...lol, so a four door Ford F-250 shouldn't be a true Ford F-250 cause it now has four doors and should be called the Ford ExtraRoomy?

Does a Jeep cj-5 look like the jeeps of today?

Does a 80s model f150 look like a 2005 f150?

And now Does a fj40 look like a 45?

Does a 62 resemble a 100?

If you said yes to those four then answer me this.

Does a 55 look like a 40?

Hell no.

I'm not saying 55's and on are not any less capable than there earlier models. It just seems to me they should have called them something else in my opinion. Truthfully I think the new FJ cruiser looks more like a landcruiser ought to look like than the Land cruiser that produced today. I love them all and would own one of each if I could.

I think if Toyota would have had this logic back in the day maybe we would have had this as the new land cruiser.

..or maybe this
Land_Cruiserresized.jpg

I think w/ a lift and some 33's the FJ Cruiser is going to be tuff

FirstToy,

that thing is awesome. if only toyota made those..

Is that just a regular bj70 or something newer? Gosh, its awesome.

I'm guessing, 90 series Prado Land Cruiser?

Firetruck,

I found it....the owner of the red 70 series is on ih8mud and his truck is in the readers rides.
Its a UK spec KZJ070 VX

True, but the X is made in Nissan's plant in Tennessee.

What exactly are you looking to be stronger? It'll have the same drivetrain as the 4.0L Tacoma, which isn't exactly a weak drivetrain. I've seen many guys wheeling Tacomas with stock axles, and stock IFS, on a 4-5" lift and 35" boggers, wheeling the hell out of it, and according to them, as long as you don't go crazy gunning it when the wheels are turned, even the CV joints holdup, and the rearend is darn near bulletproof.

The FJ might be slightly heavier than the Tacoma, but I don't see alot that would need to be upgraded, the Taco is a darn fine truck.
