The 20004 is also a resin filter and it has a by-pass valve.

It's ok Eric, Dan sold them too me.

Actually, the two other pics are mini-truck filters for the 22r/re motors. The filter on the left is the "Purolator" filter sold in the USA. The middle filter was a Denso alternative.

Dan, isn't the other advantage of the 90915-20004 filter also because it's a resin element like the yzzb5? I've not cut one open yet.

I was using YZZD3's, made in Malaysia paper element, before my shipment of 20004’s (still have 25 left), thought all the yzz’s were Malaysian and paper, apparently not

Are the Japanese YZZB5’s still available? If so that is our new 20004

Good question, Raven. CDan?

If I remember my oil filter history correctly ...

The yzzb5 was the V8 filter used on the Tundras/LC100's and was superceeded by the 20004, which is now also gone. Looking at my notes I realized the comment made that the yzzb5 was a mini-truck filter was not correct. The mini-truck filter alternative to the USA filter was the 90915-yzzb9. Dan would need to answer whether it's still available. The yzzb9 is just slightly smaller than the 20004 and I haven't used the yzzb9 since acquiring my lifetime supply of 20004's  .

Of course, Dan will need to correct me as I'm just a lowly mini-truck guy who lurks here only because the club is dominated by 1fz-fe motors and I find the knowledge necessary to fit in :flipoff2: .

90915-20003 was superceded by 90915-YZZB9 which has a resin filtering media similar to 20004. This filter(YZZB9) is being used for 4Runner with the 3.0 VZE. I believe that this filter is also gone and Denso don't make this anymore. I have one in my tool box and the last one from my package of 20.

YZZB9 is slightly smaller than the 20004 and yes if you have one, you can use it on FZJ 80.

There is a bit of a trade-off here as Pappy knows a whole lot about plants and so-on and he comes in handy when we are in a situation where we may run over something we shouldn't.....:D

The TRD filter is a glorified Fram.

Pass as far as I am concerned.

pappy welcome to another member of the NM mafia. I am not Eric, I was asking Eric to sell me some filters ;). amazingly Eric has not yet posted on this thread yet, although he has the largest stash of 20004 filters on the continent.

I am impressed to hear you can slow Dan down enough on the trail to detour him around endangered plants. I assumed with that blower of his that no one could keep up. :D

the other reason I like the 20004 filter is that I have one of those filter grabber things you use with a socket that fits a 20004. I have not had to remove a 41010 filter yet but I had a heck of a time removing the gigantic mopar filter that was on the truck when I bought it. Some grease monkey had really overtightened it and I could not get a filter wrench around it. On the bright side I did find that the driving a screwdriver through the body of the filter removal solution allows for some pre-removal draining with a plastic cup. Perhaps folks need to predrill a hole in the 41010 before removing it.

I checked w/ relatives in Japan and the -20004 is still made/sold there, but costs 2000 yen a pop!

aw man...no time to pull out my currency converting abacus...
What's that in 'merican money?

AND, if that's really the case? Stuff like that really chaps my hide! Japan is notorious for keeping good or cool stuff in their own market.

That's $18.96 AD's to me and you, Jimmy.

... to add to the mystique of the 20004s, I once called Dan's service group and Dan, unknowlingly, was on vacation --

-- they happily mailed me their last 20004s -- 20 of them --

-- when Dan returned from vacation, I received a phone call, and those filters were soon traveling towards NM again --

:D
