Dan,
What is the price for a smart shopper for this particular filter?

$9.25 a copy. Current list is $12.33.

D-

The 41010 is the big old style Cruiser filter I believe. My local dealer asks $14 a copy and will drop to $12 and act like they are doing you a big favor. I've been running these in my 80 and I have none of the startup rattle that others have described. Right now the other cruisers have Napa Gold (Wix) 51515's which looks like a white copy of the Toyota "Big" filter.

Okay, Dan, edumacate me, what is 15600-41010? How does it compare to 20004? Is this the older larger factory filter that came on cruisers since like the 60 or 62 series or is it something that supercedes the YZZ? Either way, how does it compare to the 20004 in terms of media material, oil flow, oil capacity, anti drain back valve? Thanks.

I buy the filters for the LX450 from Dan Dan the Parts Man!!!!

The filter in the middle of this pic is about the same size as the 90915-20004. The filter on the right is the 15600-41010

hmm, a guy from albuquerque answering for Dan and he has online photos of toyota oil filters, hmmm, hmmm

I don't think there is anything wrong with the big old oil filter. The small good filter gives me no start up rattle so I like it for now.

If anyone wants to sell some small good filters, I am down to 4 so I am buying. Eric?

Thanks Pappy.

The 15600-41010 has been around since the late 1960's and was the original "spin-on" filter for the Land Cruisers. It was also used on the 6 cylinder passenger car engines of the day. It is the correct original filter for all Cruisers until mid 1996 production when Toyota started using the earlier small version of what became the 90915-20004. The only thing that changed was the filter specified. It has an anti-backflow valve and a by-pass valve and is a very high quality paper type element with metal ends as opposed to cardboard such as Fram et-al. At this time they are still available but they are not cheap. Of course neither was the 90915-20004.

The primary benefit of the 90915-20004 over the 15600-41010, as I view it, and the main reason I run them (til I run out) is the smaller mess it makes when you remove it. A 41010 yaks oil all over the place....

An easy solution to this messy oil filter removal is by using a baby diaper, prior to removal of this filter from the oil flange make sure there is a diaper under that filter to catch all oil which is being pressurize by the anti-drain back valve.

The LX has one installed right now and I can't wait to take the filter off, cut it open and compare it against the 20004's filtering media.

Dan, I will be calling you soon to order some 41010.

Hmmm,

A Pampered oil change......:D

Well, just a bit smarter way of doing an oil change that is. :D

I'll try the diaper next time -- I have a few of them around...two year-old around the house and all...
I used a bunch of paper towels last time, but that didn't do too good of a job.

I got the big-uns on the 80s now.

Which filter is better the 41010 or the Napa Gold (Wix) 1515?

There is just something way over the top about using a diaper during an oil change, what if my buddies saw? :ban: That is just taking "pampering" to far. this coming form an oil nut.

I have been threatening to bend up a trough of sorts that fits under the filter and directs the dribbles to a waiting drain pan. Never have got to it, get reminded after every oil change and then forget it for another 3 months.

The horizontally mounted filter is a bad idea for many reasons besides oil changes. Toyota seams to like it, I cannot think of a single upside to it.

Of course it will be the 41010, it is an OEM filter and made in japan. The Wix is an alternative filter.

It's ok Eric, Dan sold them too me.

Actually, the two other pics are mini-truck filters for the 22r/re motors. The filter on the left is the "Purolator" filter sold in the USA. The middle filter was a Denso alternative.

Dan, isn't the other advantage of the 90915-20004 filter also because it's a resin element like the yzzb5? I've not cut one open yet.
