2000 LX470 - sitting 5 years - In Georgia USA. I need some help. How to check if engine is seized? (5 Viewers)

Anytime you connect a battery terminal wire to a modern truck, you will typically see a small spark from the battery to the cable, just at the moment they touch. I'm just suggesting you watch and be sure that when you hook up the battery, this isn't a big spark/big draw, indicating a short circuit somewhere.

Not sure if it’ll provide any peace of mind but I put a new battery in the 2007 LX today that hadn’t run or been moved in 2.5 years. Turned the key to accessory and saw the gas light on as well as the gauge pretty much resting on the empty line.

I checked oil, antifreeze and dropped a can of seafoam in with 5 gallons of non E gas.

She fired right up, I let it idle to come up to temp then drove it for about 15 min nice and easy. Zero issues noted

Well. F-me, it just turned on. Was rushing trying to get it ddone over lunch break. 1st Put the seafoam in. Swapped out battery, heard some noises, one noise lasted a long time like a robotic whiiirrrr or maybe some sort of compression noise. Heard a beep, so checked out the interior. All the lights were on, checked gas, it smelled like gas when i put the seafoam in, and had a quarter tank. Let it go for about 30-40 minutes while i was filling up tyre and letting PO get previous stuff out of car.

Only weird thing, at first it would not go over 2krpm it was really struggling. I did see rough idles after battery swaps, but yeah the gas pedal pressed wouldn't go past 2k, sorta limited around that or just tapped out.

So I gave the gas pedal some juice a few times before it roared way past it and kept it that way, not stuttering anymore. I imagine fuel pump/filter?

Ok Team # Just start the damn thing and stop overthinking it won the day. I was shaking with excitement/filming when it started and went for an uncomfortable hug with the PO.



Now listening to it with headphones, sounds like a tensioner or something is squeaking a tad?

+ Also had some initial smoke come out of the car, area seemed behind the air intake side, between that and passenger side interior wall of engine bay.I forgot to blow out the engine bay / check for rats nest. I just checked the air filter the other day and it was bone white, so I imagine some sort of oil leak or something touched off. I blew out the bay with a leaf blower. Started back up, let it run, the smoke went away. it was fine, white, mist almost. The Coolant/engine level stayed in the middle after all that time.

Just shut it off and will be back in evening or tomorrow to pick it up. Come to think of it should I disconnect the battery since i didn't fully check for the rats nest? Its only a few houses away... Ill get moe pics this was just the first pic of the thing being alive after 5 years. for memories.

Note to self, Was it having a rough time going above 2k because i needed to let it warm up? its about 80degrees out here today.

Probably a good idea to disconnect battery. That noise sounds kind of like a pulley bearing going out. Is the check engine light on? If so, do you have a code reader to check the code? If yes, please share the code.

no that was before it cut on, i was just excited it was alive, ill check again before d/c`ing battery. Yeah good call, us. No code reader or nothing, ill add it to the list. And will also need proper tools. I just have a socket wrench set and a random screwdriver at the moment...

Went back in the Georgia Rain and collected it. No CEL's (Which is highly suspicious).

Drove fine, although oil pressure was high, then leveled, then would raise as I drove (Cant remember if this is normal, havent had an oil pressure indicataor in a while) Steering was ok, brakes weren't too mushy.

I suppose after detailing it, has some mold so going to do that first and clean everything -- I need to check the timing belt, last service was 200k per the records, its at 330 right now.

Im still in stupid shock right now that the damned thing just started. I know all the Landcruiser lore, and this is likely going to be my next moneypit, but seriously in awe here.

Its absolutely pouring so ill just keep this thread updated I suppose as I make progress so its all in one place.

Thank you EVERYONE for the help! And getting me to realize I was way overthinking things. I'll never question seafoam again.

Soooon. I need to get one of those bio bombs, and deal with some interior mold. But sooo excited that the damn things moving, frames pretty good too just surface rust in spots. The hook for the Hood isn't rusty at all. I hear thats the tell tale sign of rust to run away from.

Definitely time the change the oil and filter now that you know it runs., and add fresh fuel.

The timing belt should be fine until you get other things sorted, prob a pulley squeaking from being woken from a 5 year nap.

Check to make sure the Check engine light works one of the next times you start it the light should come on for a brief moment and then go off.

Ahhh yes, I suppose based on every single thing i've read here Heater T's should be first on the list hahah. What a wonderful day! So glad this forum is a thing.

Just wanted to update the thread with a few more pix.

Only thing I've had time to do so far is a few biobombs / First pass of interior cleaning. PO said window was left down, so had a lot of mildew/mold inside. But I wanted to clean everything and surfaces off before stripping carpet/trim. Still rocking the old gas just starting and running to make sure battery isn't being drained every now and then when airing out car / cleaning car with doors open. It seems the lights do eventually cut off on their own?

Big ticket interior items / Problems = AC Controls are all sized up and stuck. Really have to slam them hard to even see something change on the intensity of the fan screen. The Temp knob just straight fell off. I see there's a few solutions online for that, will try those fixes before finding a salvaged one. Hitting the AC button definitely did something and heard some noises but ... freaked out and didn't want to potentially damage the heater core after seeing that job, so smashed it to switch it off again. Rear Seat AC works fine.

AHC doesn't respond and is in N. Off/High/Lo doesn't respond, no flashing. But I believe the reservoir is totally drained or close to it. I saw that after the car is on it should be between min/max maybe even a little over max? I'm fine with the ride hight at N as long as its nothing catastrophic. I feel like I can get to that last after oil change/ coolant / diff / etc all the fluid checks.

Rear window doesn't roll down. All the other windows work including the rear flaps. Sunroof obviously doesn't work. I sealed my 4runner one shut, will probably do the same for until that project comes around.

Have some weird debris or something on the paint. Moss, something organic. It will scrape off with my nail. I did make a clean spot with some car soap / lemon *lemons also came in handy cleaning off mildew/mold in car(well car was a cleaner + vinegar + lemon* but, looking into whats the best way of doing it. I can see her shining underneath, but its small potato's compared to making sure theres no nests/anything behind the panels. air filters were dirty but just seemed like neglect not chewed up or anything, both of them. So far soo good. Medkit was still in there, no rats in there, the spare, that all looks clear, cargo carpet underneath looked ok. No glove compartment critters, under seats, no feces anywhere.

Just taking my time for now.

Anyone have any opinions on what sort of impact wrench one should grab? While you're here maybe reading this. Anyway, pictures.

The whirring you initially heard was probably the brake booster. Totally normal.

Oh it was eventful, if you look closely you can see me leaning out of the window Ace-Ventura style. It was absolutely pouring down and the sap/moss -- i couldn't get off the windshield for anything. But I was only a few blocks away. So, sent it. Wearing a respirator mask and bio gear, lol. what a day. --but thank you.
