As long as you have the wheel offset dialed in (anywhere between 20mm-35mm) you"ll clear the front driver KDSS and body mount with a lt285/70r18. Its a no brainer for me to go with this 34" size.... other then the price Toyo charges for their lt285/70r18.... total
highway robbery lol.

Regear using the complete front and rear 3.90 diffs from the 2008-2015 cruisers is a very affordable way to go and stay all OEM quality. Somewhere around $1500-$2000 total for drop in OEM diffs is a fantastic option if you plan to regear with the 8spd.
I was planning on using a 1.25” spidertrax spacer if I go with 285/70. Good to know I can use the earlier diffs for the 8spd. I may do that in the near future if I can keep it under $2k. In the meantime, I just don’t want my Cruiser to feel sluggish and burn thew fuel at a rapid clip.

I'm being told that I didn't rotate my tires often enough, and now they’re out of round/have a flat spot/cupped (something). Basically, when I'm driving at highway speeds, I'm hearing that annoying, s***ty off-road tire waaawaaawaaa sound.

I'm currently running -
Tires: 315/70/17 A/T KO2's
Wheels: 17x8.50 5x150 5.75 25mm 110.10mm
Pic of the setup: link here

With all that said, is the KO2 still considered an excellent all-around tire, or has something new come along in the past 2+ years since I purchased my setup?

Total noob here, especially when it comes to tires. So I’ve been running the Michelin 285/60 R18 120V (with the M+S ‘Extra Load’ mark) for the past 4 years and had a blowout just recently at 47k+ miles (more than the warrantied 40k) and was looking to find an alternative, as my local tire shop said they’re discontinued. (Or would I be better off if I try to find them even so?)

I’m 99% highway driving, however I will occasionally do some light offroading.

Any suggestions? I’d like to stick with the current load and speed ratings if possible. And as far as brands go, is there one I should be sticking with?

Thanks in advance!

I think Michelin just updated the tire. The old ones are no longer available because the new ones have replaced them. Still the best road warrior tire out there, IMO. Just look for defender LXT M/S 2 (the 2 being the difference). Still pretty much the same tire with a different shoulder/sidewall look, as far as I can tell.

Here’s the long answer…

For some context, the one that blew out on me was a Michelin Latitude Tour HP. Would normally booking it going 85-90 (hour-long commute here, sue me) using the Michelin Defender be more/less affected by my driving habits, as it’s speed rating is an H instead of the Latitude Tour HP’s rating of V? And would the longevity be noticeably affected?

Again, apologies if it’s a stupid question.

Another vote for the Micheline Defender LTX M/S, which is being replaced by the next generation M/S2.
As for the speed rating, V (up to 149 mph) is way overkill for our trucks. H (130 mph) is plenty.

Has anyone done some Colorado trails with Michelin defender?

I will be out there with my family next summer, 2025, and I am thinking about going back to these tires for every day use and occasional trips.

Don't think twice about it. They are tough as nails.

You'll be fine. My stepdad runs michelin ltx on his 4runner and does a lot of "off the beaten path" driving for his photography tour company. Miles and miles of unimproved and off-road. Just stay out of mud holes if you find any.

We will be out there, just taking in the scenery, and will likely do a couple of the trails in the Alpine loop, but that would be the most extreme stuff we do.

Just got this back from the shop. It can be done but it was a tight fit. Running ridge grapplers 315/70/17.

Hi Everyone! I have posted a few times in the past regarding my 100 Series LX, but recently picked up a 2021 LX570 2 Row (no kids, but need room for the pups and traveling gear). I love this forum because of the knowledge and the support everyone gives one another.

My new 21' LX570 came with the 21-inch wheels, with tires that need to be replaced before winter. I have searched through a lot of the pages on this post and the database and am still not clear on the right size for my wheel/tire package without any mods. I personally like the look of the 20-inch wheels on this generation LX and interested in black wheels. I am also interested in the KO2s (or maybe Toyo AT3) as I am in CO and spend a lot of time in the mountains during all seasons.

Here is what I have found that I interested in, but not sure what tires will fit with those wheels/offset. I am not really interested in a lot of trimming / cutting / heating in the wheel wells.

Wheels: 20x9 with +35 offset
Tires: BFG KO2 / Toyo AT3 - 275/55R20 or 275/60R20

Would anyone be able to confirm if either of the tire sizes above will fit with the wheel size/offset selected?

Thank you for the help!

The 35 offset is good. A 275/60r20 is probably too tall to fit without without doing some work on plastic.

If you want a BFG, there is now a K03 (I think still limited sizing available). They also have a slightly less aggressive AT (Trail Terrain), and I’d also look at the Michelin Defender thread that is popular now.

One note is that all stock 200s except 21” wheeled LXs come with a 285 series tire, so don’t hesitate looking at those. The LX with 20s come with 285/50R20.

Lastly, this may not be of concern, but since you aren’t going up in tire size much, might consider an 18” wheel if comfort is of concern. It was a massive difference in improved comfort on my LX going from a 20” stock wheel/tire to an upsized 17” Load E AT3 tire. The extra sidewall can make a big difference. I gained like 3” in sidewall between the wheel center the ground, so your change wouldn’t be as severe, so maybe not as much impact.

Thank you very much for the feedback!

For knowledge, would your thoughts on the plastic work to support the 275/60R20 just be moving the liner or additional heating/cutting as well?

For the KO3, I saw those as well. My local dealer is telling me May 2025 which is too far out for me to wait :(

I will keep the 18-inch wheels in mind during my search as well. The comfort may be worth the change in appearance.

Shouldn’t be much if any. I just installed 285/70/18 with minimal trimming and repining of the wheel well liner

A 34” tire can go without touching metal, but you will have to be aggressive moving plastic.

After reading through this whole forum, pretty much every post, I decided to go with some LC 18 inch rims for my ‘16 LX. I found a set recently powdercoated in gloss black, which I have now sealed with satin finish as I like the matte look much more. Im super stoked how they came up!!!! Pre and post photos below.

Next week, Falken ATW3 going on 285/65/18, can’t wait to feel the difference from 21’s I’m hoping they are a lot more smooth riding. Main reason though is to be able to air down for sand.
