first time ever i saw a 200 with rear bumper and not a front one

Hindsight being 20/20 I would have started with rear before front.

For adventuring, having mounting points for water, fuel, trash etc is awesome.

Unlocks going to a 35 sooner because you can hang a full spare.

Fixes biggest weak point which is departure angle.

Wait, so did you trade up to the Karavan?
Sure did. It took a good amount of coordination and a willingness to do what was needed to get the Kamper sold. Funny thing, I figured out the Karavan is the one that got away 3 years ago when we aren't able to sell the Kamper quick enough.

Ha! We have the front in the shed. I just need to make time to get it on... But first I need to finish the aux tank install. So many jobs🤣

Congratulations, that’s a very fine addition!

I’ guessing you bought from Bates, we bought our Conqueror from him right before he switched to the Kimberley. We’ve joked that if anything happened to our Conqueror that he’d be my first phone call for the replacement. We need to sleep 4 and it’s not very clear to me how that’s done in the Karavan.

makes sense to me. I can't afford either, so I live vicariously through you guys.

To me, whenever I see front only - it looks horrendous. You either do both, or neither (my .02).

But of Course since I can't afford either - my opinion doesn't matter anyways.

Maybe I’m weird but I fit my 315/70R17 under my truck without much issue. I used a ratchet strap to pull it tight against the rear crossmember before lifting it up the last inch or so but that was it.

It fits better than the 285/70R17 I had under my GX, that’s for sure.

Not weird, a 295/70/18 also fits.

Since a 35 spare fits underneath, I'd say big tires before bumper. It's very possible with the height of 35s and a moderate lift, bumpers may not even be needed for clearance and protection

We are/were the 3rd owners on both.

Having had many conversations with Dave, he is a great resource to have here. We almost bought the last new Kamper in the US....then we saw the Karavan. Sorry Dave😬

Regarding lineage of the Kamper, @spressomon was the 1st & i believe he did import. @hoser was next and a gentleman from Expo put us in touch. We had it for 2 months short of a decade. We'll miss the smell of that canvas. Only unfortunate thing is it left the Mud family. However, the new owner is a solid human and will use it as it's intended to be.

Funny thing regarding the Karavan, which I put together at some point in this process, we attempted to purchase this very one 3 years ago. We just couldn't sell the Kamper fast enough. Apparently, it was meant to be.

The rear's install was for the reasons @tbisaacs mentioned. We knew we'd be towing often and that Kamper only has an 18 gallon water tank. Adding the rear 1st gave us more options on where to carry extra fluids, hence its priority.

Reston, VA yesterday - natural habitat.
What’s the deal with those headlights? Are those the stock sport lights?

Mods are nice but nothing beats the drop down tailgate with overhead sun protection. We throw down a blanket and plop our two kids here for snack/lunch no matter where we are on the road.

Shake off the blanket, close the hatch, then back on our way.

Such a shame the new “Land Cruiser” doesn’t have a split hatch. Big miss IMO.

Agree 100%. The split tailgate should never have gone away. Also funny how people decide to color match. It seems you’re more black and tan, and I’m clearly red and blue 😂
