Daily Driver:

New valving on the KINGS!, By far the best 200 series I have ever ridden around town and on rough areas. This valving softens the low end compression significantly, especially in the rear. However what I have fixed this time is the the rate of how stiff it gets. In other words how progressive the curve is. With this shim configuration it is a much smoother curve and also softer all around since I have noticed with the previous valving that not all the travel was being used. Now the tires dance around up and down on the gravel. Floats over rocks and washboard even with the KDSS equipped. I also noticed with this revalve even with the KDSS, body roll has increased. This is because the low end compression has been reduced significantly.

Coilover spring rate: 600lb springs

Rear coil spring: Stock coil spring with 4cm spacer to minimize spring rate while having a good amount of up travel.

Nitrogen Pressure: 150 psi all around

Valving FRONT:

Compression -

Low Speed #1 0.10 1.75"
Low Speed #2 0.10 1.30" (Flutter shim)
Low Speed #3 0.10 1.75"
Mid Speed #4 0.10 1.60"
Mid Speed #5 0.10 1.45"
High Speed #6 0.10 1.30"
High Speed #7 0.10 1.15"

Rebound - Standard 0.12 straight stack.

Valving REAR:

Low Speed #1 0.08 1.75"
Low Speed #2 0.08 1.60"
Mid Speed #3 0.08 1.45"
Mid Speed #4 0.08 1.30"
High Speed #5 0.08 1.15" (x2, doubled shims)
High Speed #6 0.08 1.00" (x2) doubled shims)

Rebound - Standard 0.12 straight stack.

* The reason I went with doubled 0.08 shims on the high speed, as opposing to thicker shims is because I learned that using more thinner shims gives a smoother curve, less spiking. Worked out great.

With this valving it feels like the wheels are disconnected from the chassis, like I am floating over everything. You can tell by the video how much the tires move even on the smallest bumps. Which was the goal. Use as much wheel travel as possible on the normal stuff for maximum daily driving comfort.

Lesson Learned: "Even if you have all the wheel travel in the world, if its not valved right its pointless"

You should do your own build thread so we can follow progress and updates more easily.

Here's some shots from today on the Switzerland Trail outside Boulder, CO. This was The Ruby's maiden voyage "off road." This was not technical at all, bet we had fun.

I convinced my best friend who also lives in Denver a 200 would be a good idea, so he bought a 2011 LX recently. He’s not a big poster on forums, but I wanted to share his truck since it’s going to be an awesome build. I won’t spoil the plans, but he has a Cummins Ram 3500 with bumpers and 35s for a DD (LX will become DD I believe) and a second gen SAS 4runner on 40s that he built himself.

First things up were Icon Six Speed Wheels with the new 285/75/17 Cooper AT3 XLTs, and a TJM snorkel. LOTS more cool stuff to come, and the parts are being amassed right now.

Man I really like the look of those XLTs.

A digital painting of the one and only PismoJim’s 200 Series. Follow along on Instagram @overlandart if you’d like. They won’t all be cruisers or even Toyota’s but having fun doing them.
