for sure, you take the Geology tour trail off the main road in Joshua Tree, has a big sign says four wheel drives only! The first nine miles are the Geology trail, pretty much just a fun dirt road, super fun high speed trail! Then you come to a T in the road, go left, that is the Berdoo Canyon Road. This road was a blast, has a sign when you pull onto that road that it is not maintained at all. Nothing technical about the trail, just a super cool high speed track with some wash outs, holes and then some rock work as you make your way through the pass. This trail eventually leads you a back way out of the park.

Thank you! Sounds like a hoot and not terribly far from me...
On the list... :)

So, early in the day yesterday I receive a text from my wife stating that she NEEDS to go camping. So I meet up with my father-in-law and set out to see if we can find anything open that would allow room for the in-law's RV, plus my trailer. (I also wanted to try out the new KO2s, too, but don't tell her that...)

We were heading North towards a family favorite, when we encountered this:

Knowing that the snow would probably (mostly) melt by the end of the week, we pressed on and plowed through the snow. No big deal for the KO2s. :)
Around a few more bends, we encountered this:idea::

Well, this was a show stopper for both the RV and my 26' long travel trailer. There was no way that we would get past this obstacle, BUT... that didn't mean that I couldn't try with the new KO2s... (I have a small video that my father-in-law took of me driving over this and then on the way back using Crawl Control, just to play with it..., back over.:D I'll post those in a bit.)

The LX was VERY stable going over this smallish (6-7' vertical) hump, but we only got about 1 mile farther and this is what came into view...o_O

Uh.... I don't think so.... to be cont.

To give a bit more perspective.... Here I am standing next to the "wee pebble", as my F-I-L calls it:

We hiked around, just because it was a beautiful day and walked down to the water's edge. It was flowing a bit fast though...

Overall, we did not make it back to our camp spot, but had fun trying to get there.

Here is a link to me driving over the first "road block" without using Crawl Control:

On the way back through, I wanted to play with the Crawl Control, just because I had not had a "proper" opportunity. The system did very well, but in the slowest setting, it was a bit jerky, as you can plainly see in this video. I sped it up, when I came back through the deepest snow (not in video) and it was very smooth and made going through the snow very easy!

And yeah, I need to wash the bugger now...

That's what I love about Cruisers.
It's not just the destination that's a hoot. A huge part of the "hoot" is getting there...and getting back--
--or in your case...even NOT getting there! :)

Great post!

If you post to YouTube...more people will be able to see your vid. Right now the link says, "Video Unavailable," etc.

I'll see what I can do about getting it onto Youtube... but for the sake of seeing something interesting... a friend directed me to the following video on Youtube from a locale not too far away...

How about this link?

Here is a Youtube link to the second video, with Crawl activated. You can tell, because it kind of lurches along... it only did this in the slowest setting.

Interesting to see the slide as it slowly accumulates.

I've always been amazed at how THIN the actual topsoil is compared with the underlying rock...

What was scary to me about this was as I was walking along the edge in front of that large rock in my pic, dirt was rolling down... I never thought that a sudden deluge of dirt could possibly start coming down... later I looked closer at the base dirt on the outside edge of the rock and found that it was just dirt covered SNOW... melting. We left.
