This is the time that I did get the engine home and start to take off all the accessories. Later on when I see the carbon build up, I decided to take a step further which is “over-haul” the engine. Just for a peace of mind in future.

it is just the beginning step, before entering the problem zone.

While some good stuff are back ordered, halt on the project is a good choice. At least for now

Awesome!

I am very interested in this project. I love my 1KZ-TE but I also have a lot of admiration towards the KD. I drove a current gen Prado equipped with a KD for a while and that thing can pull better than some good diesel 6 cylinders out there.

Are you planning on keeping the truck's stock transmission or do you have something else in mind? Also out of curiosity: emissions equipment, are you planning on deleting/keeping them, and their associates sensors?

Cheers!

I will retain the manual, I do love auto as well. As for emissions, it depend on which gen some doesn’t have the dpf yet. I will try to keep the egr systems.

Very interesting project, looking forward to seeing your progress! Do you plan on running all the electronics ? Seen a couple online converted to mechanical injection, one in particular making serious power! You might've seen it, its a kzj73 with a modified cab, I think in Portugal.

This is the one I'm talking about ----->

I saw that years ago, but my route is fully electronic. Fingers crossed for the success. It’s not gonna be long to reach to that “electrical” chapter.

Very cool project! One of dreams for my truck.

I wonder if some dash wiring and gauge cluster from a vdj7x will make this easier. Usually for the same years and engine tech (d4d) things are more interchangeable. Just an idea.

That is a solid idea. ^

Some Hilux trucks came with that D4D as well. The cluster would be out but sub-looms, brackets, and auxiliaries maybe 🤔

I'm eagerly awaiting.

One of these days, I need to remotor the faux-lux, and if I can figure out how to get a 1KD-FTV in there.....

The can bus system might be not an easy solution for sync between both systems.
