Not sure if you have already gone with an option on this, but if you are going with a separate transmission cooler, then maybe take a look at the PWR radiators. They DO make them in the US for the 70's and claim 30% better cooler over the OEM rads. Important since you blocked the airflow with the intercooler. (I did the same)

I have not completed all my testing with it yet (waiting on the hot weather) but thought it worth mentioning since you have turboed your HZ just like I did.

Crazy timing on these replies. I just replaced my A/T radiator yesterday with an OEM M/T unit during my M/T swap process.

A lot has changed since I posted this.

I drop in my 2 cents coin ….
Replaced my Toyota radiator after 350 K km , after a front crash …
The cheapest ( and better ) solution was to replace it with a custom radiator made of copper and brass with extra core .
250 € aprox , will over live the car .
Copper and brass radiato can be repaired endless times .
Excellent thermal performance.
And won’t crack under avere road corrugation .

Custom 4 core brass into my original 2H radiator didn’t help to improve the cooling in my experience (2H-T). The upper tank also kept getting pin holes so the upper and lower tank can eventually fatigue enough to be worthless. I ended up getting a custom built aluminum radiator from PWR (that makes radiators for racing) and had them make it 2” longer on the bottom and had the upper hose attachment tube run under the upper tank to the filler this trying to force more of a cross flow. 2H radiator has in/out on the same side. Works good so far

I put the Toyota 17080 radiator in my m/t 1hz. I didn't have an auto transmission to consider, but I went OEM over aluminum purely for repair-ability. I like to drive around in Mexico and I like knowing I could have a pinhole soldered anywhere

Looks like I will need a new radiator myself and I am not looking forward to going to a local dealer for it but it seems like the best option for a fragile part.

for what it's worth I ordered mine from partsouq and it arrived well packaged with thin plywood supports. I did not do any price comparisons with US dealers so I can't say if I spent more or less than I had to.

There are several after market Transmission coolers with integrated electric fan.
Since space is a premium. With the electric fan, you can mount the cooler almost anywhere.

Derale makes several versions.

The pricing is all over the place. I care more about getting an undamaged unit in my hands the quickest and easiest way more than pricing and sadly the dealers local to me aren’t always the easiest way when it comes to 70 series parts. Even if the parts are stocked stateside.

I ended up calling in the order for 16400-17080 from a local dealer I haven't used before and it was a pretty smooth transaction albeit pricey. None of the online part sites I tried have this radiator and there is only a few at the Ontario warehouse I am told. Didn't want to order it from ebay even though it is listed there.

Personally on mine I ordered the manual transmission radiator OEM PN# 16400-17080 and had the outlet and cooler line portion of my old radiator soldered on to the new radiator, sand blasted and all. 2 years going strong.

does anyone know the fan shroud that fits the 16400-17080? i have a 1hz 1997 RHD HZJ77? thanks the old shroud doesnt bolt up to it and right now its zipped tues in place.

Look up your radiator PN and/or VIN on Megazip, toyodiy or similar an see what shroud matches up... I found this to be compatible with your radiator, but not 100% sure it's what you need: 16711-17020

This is correct, or rather, the 16711-17020 to 16711-17090 substitution.

I have a 1992 HZJ77 with a manual transmission 16400-17080 radiator in it. I am running the 16711-17090 shroud, and it bolts up perfectly.
