Hi guys!

I'm just wondering what RPM are you getting when at highway speed like 120 kmh? My 73 with 285/75 tires is almost at 3K RPM. From there it feels like the engine likes to be on that range. I can pull and keep up with traffic easily and its happy to go 140 kmh/3300 rpm.

When I got home, i looked at the specs of the 1HZ, it looks like it is was designed to rev, not like a tractor diesel. All the engine torque at the low end and hp pass 3K rpm, 129HP is nothing to brag about but better than a mower engine. Transmission is geared for low crawl and highway speed, anything in between is hopeless and gutless until you get to 3K RPM. It's awesome to push how fast the old LC can go. Tires are howling but the engine is so smooth for a diesel.

Wikipedia
"The 1HZ Toyota Landcruiser 4.2 litre (4164 cc) diesel inline 6-cylinder 12-valve SOHC (single overhead camshaft) is of the IDI or indirect injection design, and delivers maximum power of96 kW (129 hp) at 3800 rpm and maximum torque of 285 N⋅m (210 lbf⋅ft) at 2200 rpm."

What vehicle and transmission do you have? I don't think I've had mine above 110. I also don't have a tachometer so it's all a mystery. I know she howls pretty loud at 100 km.

You mean it won't blow up if I go 120?

H55f trans, 1990 hzj73 with 150k odo. Other than howling mud tires, its a joy to drive on highway. Pretty stable and drive straight. Probably a combination of detuning the ome leaf in the back and a degree shim in the front. im running only 6 leaf in the back and my truck is empty. I i dont like carrying any load. Probably why i can maintain 140 kmh on highway.

110kmh is slow. Thats about 65mph.
