Original poster, what did you do with crank?

Offshore breathern, the H150/1 was never delivered to north america in any truck and thus zero parts are available for the transmission here. I have a transmission I replaced the rear case on and the 5th gear thrust washers and bearings and the simple o ring for the oil pump are non north american parts. The seal for transfer case was available but only because it is used on automatics as well. It would take a great leap of faith to import transmissions and supplies for one shop- with Marv gone it is never going to happen.

My crank wasn't salvageable. I bought a brand new one. Maybe I'll use the old one to make a coffee table...

Even thought those 5 speeds (H150/H151) were never offered in N. America, I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor in whether or not to install one on a swap. You can still get the transmissions brand new from overseas (expensive) and all the small parts are also readily available. Just my $.02, the 5 speed is way more fun than the auto

$$$ is the biggest factor right now. I'm $12k deep on the engine alone, and that was a somewhat 'conservative' route.

If I can find a later model H151F - complete package for a swap - for a good deal, then i'll definitely consider it. Does the A442 out of my hdj81 have any market value?

Well where were you months ago. It looks like my later model H151F will be sold tomorrow with all the bits included, sorry

I sold my a442f for $500

Haha, no worries. At this point it looks like the injector pump is going to be delaying the project for a bit. It's getting upgraded to output a lot more pressure to match the newer 92-style pistons and the gturbo.

If you post a want to buy you may have luck... There are suppliers that have them. Maybe even in Canada.

The toughest part will be getting the following items for a reasonable price with shipping:

Trans
Bell housing
Flywheel
Clutch/cover
Cross member

I have the Gturbo Grunter Extreme and could not be happier. 24-25psi of boost and I can hold whatever I want on the highway. I also have an A2A intercooler, straight pipe, and the auto trans valve body. Awesome setup. The shifts are firm, and will bang more when moving slowly, like in traffic for instance. When on the open road there is no lull at the 60km/h mark, it just snaps and climbs with even power until you let off the skinny peddle. At 110 km/h on the flat my pre turbo EGT's are in the 500-600 F degree range, and rpms are just over 2000. I'm running 315s.

1. Where'd you get the valve body done?

2. Did you upgrade the TQ Converter?

3. Which brand A2A I/C?

4. What year and which motor? I assume 1HDT.

5. Did you get your IP upgraded?

6. Is it a good DD? No idle issues? Decent economy?

Okanagan Motors buzzed me yesterday - they're working on my 1HDT Injection Pump.

I asked to have it upgraded to match my Grunter Extreme. Looks like I'm better of going with a pump from 1992+. Anyone have one laying around? Trade plus cash for my good 1990 pump?

EDIT:

It appears i'm looking for the pump with part#: 22100-17620

What's the difference between the pumps? Do you not have to have the injectors to match the pump you're using?

So I updated to the 92+ style pistons during the rebuild, which obviously requires the injectors to be modified or shimmed.

The injection pump is being upgraded to provide more flow for the Gturbo, but the 92+ style pumps have a different (IE: more precise) mechanism to deliver fuel.

Here's the e-mail from the shop:

Re: IP + Injector rebuild

Micheal,

I tested the injectors, and they dont require nozzles. Operation is like new. I will, however, need to adjust the pre-lift, and reset the 2nd opening pressure, as it differs from 90-92 spec by around 400psi. They will be fully cleaned and refurbished. I am tracking down the thicker base gaskets that are necessary for proper engine operation with your choice of pistons. They have been done once before and the previous shop/installer used non-toyota gaskets, which is a no-no.

As for the pump, it will require full teardown, as the parts required to match your setup (pistons and injectors) require many parts to be changed out. The camplate, advance mechanism, throttle shaft and spring, and a few other small things are completely different or updated parts for the 93+ models.
Also, I need to know if your truck is automatic trans or manual.
I can then verify the proper pump number and base settings, and we may be able to find a complete pump at a more competitive price to build up instead of patching together a frankenstein pump. Because some parts are either discontinued or unavailable from Denso, it may be difficult to build a truly 100% 93+ pump using your 1990-91 pump. The 1hdt is pretty finicky, so I am not a huge fan of using incorrect bits in the pumps whenever possible. Especially when you are building a brand new new motor.
I can give you a quote on either option and you can decide what you want to do.

Best Regards"

Okay - so I'm on the final stretch here. Waiting on the IP and Injectors from Fox JDM / Okanagan Diesel, and then it's go time.

I like to be transparent, so hopefully this info helps anyone rebuilding a 1HDT in the future. I'm sure we will see more of these threads as the HDJ81 gets imported in higher numbers to the states.

All prices are in estimates and in Canadian dollars:

Oil Cooler - $500
Crankshaft - $1650
IP Rebuild - $2300
Injector Rebuild - $600
ISSPRO EGT and Boost Gauges - $400
Piston Kit - $1550
Oil Pump kit - $600
TB Kit with misc hoses and accessories - $500
OEM Connecting Rod - $350
GTurbo - $2250
Machinist labour - $800
Build labour - $2000

This was a medium-conservative build. I could've skipped the IP Rebuild and gone OEM turbo, but that's about all the 'upgrades' i've done.

I'm still deciding between upgrading my A442f and going H151f - Valve body + TQ converter upgrades on the A442 are $$$$$, to the point where you could buy a brand new H151f from Cruiserparts.

Needless to say I'm VERY excited. I bought this cruiser for $10k in Aug/2015 and it failed Sept/2015, including all the other maintenance i've done to it, I'm into it for about $14k + the rebuild. This has been far and away the MOST expensive vehicle I've ever owned, which is saying something when you have a 400WHP Audi Allroad and a 6-Speed Passat W8.

I hope it's worth it. We find out in just a couple weeks time!

If you do decide to get rid of your A442F I would be interested in purchasing it.

K04's in your Allroad? I'm planning out a build for my B5 S4 at the moment.

Yup, with all the supporting mods. Still working out a couple bugs, and just sent air suspension out for warranty, but eventually it'll be a perfect 'baby' expedition vehicle.
