1HD-T Rebuild - Checklist

Correct.
Take the engine out, disassemble everything, bring the block, crank and head to a good, reputable machine shop, and have them measure everything. AFTER that, start ordering parts for the rebuild, as you will not know beforehand what size pistons, bearings and rings you will need, and how many valves are shot.

I've been making a habit of going out to Waiparous lately, and bringing with me friends who have never driven off-road. It's a lot of fun seeing people react to fairly tame features (myself included) - this OHV area is a gem and I look forward to helping the trail crews this summer.

I did get a chance to use my winch for the first time, moving a large tree that blocked the trail (struck by lightning?) and also to flip the wrecked explorer that is visible in the later pics. I didn't get footage of it on my phone, but will update the thread once I get it from a friend!

The cruiser is still running hot, probably getting too much fuel. I have trouble maintaining a respectable speed up the Cochrane hill, even with the new Gturbo Gx. I think I need to get a proper tune done on my pump and probably get an intercooler too.

I've put about 10,000km on since the rebuild. Here's what I found so far:

1. Slight air leak @ fuel cap. Replaced fuel cap with OEM heater version and larger OEM filter. Bought the wrong heater element, now I have to splice a connector to make it fit. Everything else was plug'n'play:

2391017040 HEATER ASSY, FUEL <------------ This is the wrong part for my 1990 as seen in the pic below. I think 23910-17020 would be the correct fitment. Hopefully I can splice a connector no problem.

2. Only had HI and Off working on my HVAC system. Was told to replace the Blower Resistor. Maybe I couldn't find the right part, maybe my mechanic gave me the wrong part number. Here's what I encountered:

8713860220 RESISTOR, BLOWER

^^ Same plug, entirely different part. When I removed the Denso part and put re, the HVAC will now operate on the middle speeds, but they all appear to operate at the SAME middle speeds. Did I get the wrong part# or am I putting this in the wrong place?

3. Antenna Rod and shield - got the parts and they fit, but looks like I need a new cable as well.

3. A/C Pulley and belt - this was easy peasy. my pulley blew up. A/C is back in the cabin! Got V-Belts as well.

5. Recovery points - HDJ81 front recovery points are incompatible with ARB bumper, so I bought the north american style:
